Maybe Hitler Had The Right Idea

Comments welcome

There was a time in these once great United States, when a man could walk proudly down the street, stand tall, and know that his world, his life, was his own. Know that no matter what his abilities, a man was able to determine his own destiny. It was a time of growth and of pride in his country. People everywhere, from sea to shining sea, held in awe and in respect, the nation's flag, the nation's Constitution and the nation's bounty.

I once knew a man who founded a business in the back of his garage. His product was a passive electronic device which revolutionized electronics, allowing circuit size to shrink, to use less power and more, to become extremely stable. His name was Bart Weller. And Bart founded Vitramon, Inc. Located in the heart of Connecticut in a town called Monroe, Bart's Vitramon was the pride of the industry and the pride of the State. That ended quickly. In an interview he gave in a local (Bridgeport) newspaper, Bart made a statement which was (of course) taken completely out of context, and ended his popularity among Jews and conservatives in his state. These were his supporters and investors.

Well, Bart did not need these folks because by the time he had been misquoted, his power had taken hold, his company became rich and his name was impeccable. But the damage had been done. Bart said that Adolph Hitler had the right idea. Of course, Bart was referring to the Autobahn system as well as Uncle Addy's impressive technological growth.

The press picked this up and made poor Bart Weller into a NAZI. No such thing.

Which forms the title of this piece.

Adolph Hitler DID have the right idea. Make that "ideas!" He took from his people, every freedom he could steal and created the stuff which should be studied in our history books, but is not. Not to sufficiency. Of course the right idea had to do with taking away none but the (then) German culture could endure. To remove freedom and direct citizens to follow orders blindly.

Such is happening here. However we need no Hitlerian demagogue to bring forth World War Three and the end of freedom. We have a more insidious and amoral way of bringing about our slavery. How? Just ask any politician. Or better, pay attention to what has happened to your freedoms in the past twenty years. It's the way of it you know. To reduce freedom slowly, with great patience, so that as one generation slips into oblivion, all which preceded within that generation, all which was good and wondrous about it, is forgotten. And in our schools, history is distorted and reduced to pap ... the oatmeal of oblivion, the groats of our demise, the gruel of slavery.

"Eat this! Don't do that or we'll place you under arrest. Hey, YOU! there's a law against that. Cut it out." Please, if you will, think about how many little freedoms culminated into the taking from us of all of the important ones.

Whenever something happens which the press in their infinite stupidity (Hey, I mean the mainstream press, not the Rense press) finds newsworthy, something which involves a freedom held by many, an abuse of that freedom by an idiot, ONE idiot, a hue and cry go out to demolish that particular freedom for EVERYONE. This is accomplished by a few vocal politicians who use the newsworthy event to enhance their own image and provide free advertising... PR as it is otherwise known. So, people who had hitherto carried knives more than three inches long are now required by LAW to cease and desist. Now, you may not carry a knife unless it is less than three inches. And they measure it.

Guns ... La Meme Chose.

Let's take a look at a subject which should enjoin both the gun people and the antigun people. Bullet Proof vests. Right. Did you know that you are not only not allowed to carry concealed guns or knives (a knife worth carrying for protection and self defense is not a three inch toothpick), but you are also precluded from carrying around on your body, protection from being shot.

Perhaps the Gestapo perceives that anyone who is wearing a bullet proof vest cannot do so because they reserve the right to shoot you with complete abandon, with impunity. Or perhaps they do not want BAD guys being protected from the law enforcers' bullets. Well, I can sort of understand the latter, but does anyone out there imagine for a brief moment in time, that bad guys will NOT get just about any goddamned thing they want to get, easier, faster and cheaper than you or I, the law-abiding citizen? AND WILL GET IT no matter how many laws we pass to the contrary?

So - who suffers the indignity of being shot innocently in an armed robbery or hijacking of your car? You, Mr. and Mrs. Citizen. The same, THE VERY SAME people who scream, "SHAME" when referring to guns, knives and bullet proof vests. The same people will take out their paranoia on alarm and security systems, body guards and Lord knows what else, but will look at you as if you were a child molester if you suggested that they carry a gun, a knife or wear a vest.

"Wear your vest. It could save your life" is reserved only for cops and their perps. But not for you.

Take the subject of driving. These days you cannot drive a car in my state whilst using a cell phone. You must use a hands free system. It's the law. But wait, there's more! Someone just completed a study suggesting that even TALKING on a hands free phone whilst driving detracts from your concentration enough to cause an accident. Of course, everyone doing these studies is neglecting a very important fact. Well, maybe more than one. The infrequent use of Common Sense is the biggest one. And the inability of SOME citizens to give a rat's arse about anyone but themselves. This precludes ALL citizens from enjoying a little freedom. Why? Because some jerk could not make the grade.

"The needs of the few ... " Thanks Spock. We needed that.

So, we cannot use our hand held in the car. We cannot use a hands free in the car. We cannot use the car. It's too dangerous.

We cannot use a knife except to cut steak. Anyone caught using a knife cutting anything other than a bit of undigested beef is breaking the law. Say you ain't go no teeth and you need to cut them veggies up a bit more? Tough toenails. Buy a meat grinder.

It's a losing fight. Too many people. Too many inconsiderate ones. Too many idiots out there thinking that their world is the one surrounding them out to the extent of their cars or other conveyance. Too many idiots. Culpable ones.

This very morning I was driving through a neighborhood in which there are many children playing and crossing. A community pool and playground faced my right. Little ones were darting in and out between parked cars with their little towels and blankies, rubber duckies and toys. And this young lady was driving through all this at nearly 40 mph. The speed limit is 15 mph. She was talking on her cellphone too. Paying no attention to anyone but her phone. As she approached my car she swerved to avoid hitting me head on. She sideswiped three parked cars and hit a little boy standing between two other parked vehicles before coming to a stop. She came out of her car screaming that I almost hit her and it was my fault.

Retired as a Reserve police officer, I produced a badge. I brought her over to my car and showed her on my display just how fast she was going and also to place her under arrest and cuff her. No, I don't use radar. I developed my own speed sensing device, using nothing but pulsed sound waves. Low frequency and low power. It displayed 43.87 mph. I placed her under arrest for speeding, unsafe operation of a motor vehicle and demonstrated to the attending police officer, the trail of rubber she left on the street as she swerved from MY lane into the correct lane. Approximately forty feet of rubber. Forty feet. And since my car came to an immediate stop when she hit her brakes I discerned that she never swerved into the middle of the street in order to avoid hitting all those parked cars. Which is why the little one was hit. He was between cars, peeking out from them waiting to cross. He never left the safety of standing between the two parked cars. She ran her motor vehicle straight into the area between the two parked cars, hitting the little one.

I did not write her up for using her cellphone illegally. The attending black and white did that.

She'll be in jail for at least a week until arraignment. B***h. Not even 21 years old. Her boyfriend was still on the phone after the regular police arrived and after they took her away. The sergeant on the scene spoke with him, garnering information which will hang her. He heard everything. Even the curse she shouted out when she hit the little boy.

"That little **** ran out into the street!" Sure. Which is why he died on the scene smashed in between two parked cars and her own Pontiac.

Now the Gannett papers and the local TV channel will get a hold of this and blame it on the cell phone. Am I the only one who objects to that opinion? Or is there anyone else out there with an ounce of common sense left? "Hartsdale woman kills child whilst driving with her hand held cell phone! Film at eleven." No Charley, it wasn't the cellphone that caused this misery, took a child from his loving (I hope) parents and knocked him into an early grave, it was stupidity. Culpable stupidity. Selfishness. A lack of respect for anyone but herself. Perhaps her parents were not all that nurturing. The car she was driving was a sports model. Looked faster than it was. All show. No go. But it stops good on little children.

If I were God, I would end our misery. Maybe that rock they found out there is the answer. Maybe. Maybe not. Be a lot easier if we all just sat down, took a few deep breaths and thought long and hard about ourselves. About how we act. How we think and how the hell we get away with being called "human." Frank Herbert had the right idea. Test every young person with the Gom Jabbar. If they don't make the grade ... well, there's always Soylent Green.
