Pakistan Says Nuclear
Security Not Given To US
11-4-1

ISLAMABAD (PNS) - Pakistan on Saturday refuted the notion that it was going to hand over the security of its nuclear assets to the United States.

The reports are totally wrong and baseless, President's spokesman responded to a questioner during a daily press briefing along foreign office spokesman Aziz Ahmed Khan.

"US secretary of state Collin Powel has invited Pakistani experts to the US for some sort of training about better security measure to further improve the security of our nuclear installations. But no decision has been taken in this regard so far," he declared.

He made it clear that Pakistan had not asked for US experts for the security of country's Nuclear assets. Rather, he added, US secretary of state had suggested special training for Pakistani experts.

Gen. Qureshi again denied the reports that Pakistan was considering to hand over some of its bases to US for ground operation against Afghanistan.

Responding to a query about Anthrax spear to Pakistan, he termed it as an act of terrorism. "Specimens of Anthrax now being sent to the National Institute of Health Islamabad for further conformation."

When the attention of foreign office spokesman at this occasion was drawn towards the reports that 2000 armed people have slipped into Afghanistan for joining Taliban to fight US and its allied forces, he responded: "So far we have no independent conformation about these people".

However, he admitted that such case of illegal crossing the borders could not be ruled out because it was difficult for the government to police the 2500 km long Pak-Afghan border.

The spokesman reiterated that Kashmir and Palestine issues should be resolved as soon as possible.

When asked about the massive exercises of Indian Army along the border, Gen. Qureshi declared that these were the routine movements of troops. "It is not any thing to fear about."

Responding a question about the anti-US and government demonstrations he claimed that the intensity of these protests now reducing because people had realized the some vested interests had been using the situation for their personal interests.

The spokesman said that US defence secretary will be visiting Pakistan today (Sunday) however, he added, the details of the agenda were not available.
