is still in southern Afghanistan but also travels to secret hideouts in
Pakistan, a senior Northern Alliance official said.

- "Osama is still in southern Afghanistan,"

interior minister Younis Qanooni told AFP.

- "He sometimes travels to Pakistan where he also
has secret places," Qanooni said.

- The claim prompted a swift and angry denial from
Islamabad.

- "There is absolutely no truth in this. Osama bin
Laden has never been to Pakistan," said government spokesman Anwar
Mahmood.

- "This is all imaginery," Mahmood said, adding
that bin Laden would have been arrested long ago if he had been making
regular trips to Pakistan.
