Anti-terror Powers Won't Be
Abused, Say Police Groups

OTTAWA - Police groups from across Canada assured a Senate committee that new investigative powers in proposed anti-terrorism legislation will not be abused.

Organizers representing police chiefs and rank-and-file officers spoke Tuesday with senators studying Bill C-36.

Two elements of the proposed legislation have received much criticism from legal and social activists: the power to detain suspected terrorists for up to three days; and the ability to compel people to assist with investigations. The critics have called for a five-year sunset clause on these measures.

But the police representatives say those powers will rarely be used.

David Griffin, with the association that represents Canada's 40,000 rank-and-file officers, believes a sunset clause is unnecessary.

He says those powers are already limited to exceptional cases when a specific suspect could be linked to a specific threat. "We don't see this as supporting some of the hysteria that's developed in the public debate over this bill."

Ottawa's police chief echoes Griffin, saying the powers will rarely be used.

"The provisions of this act are not going to come into play typically for the officers on the front line. They will be implemented by officers specially trained for this purpose," said Chief Vince Bevan.

Bevan says Justice Minister Anne McLellan should not make any more amendments to the bill.

And McLellan seems to agree, hinting to senators that the early round of amendments will be the final ones. "This is permanent criminal law to deal with a fight that is going to be a long one and one that is not going to go away."

Yeah right! They constantly abuse the powers they already had, so why would this be any different?

We have a corrupt police state now. And what about all of the people who were sent to prison because of false police reports and witnessing from paid "authorities". Anyone who believes the promises of the NewWorldOrderNazis not to misuse or abuse their new found powers is living in a bubble that will soon burst.

Remember the Draconian Drug Laws of the '80's and how the police were trying to bust drug dealers with loss of money and property? Police breaking into the wrong homes and killing the neighbors who are the wrong target. Children held at gunpoint after being awakened by armed Swat Members. The police were motivated by greed. Now they will be motivated by the power of being able to be mean and being paid to be vigilantes. Oppression, repression, suppression and great heartache will follow.

Leave us not forget that 25% of all prisoners murdered by the state were found to be not guilty posthumously since l900. Many of them convicted or forced to confess by out of control police officers. This created terror and obedience from the people. Internal terrorism is the NewWorldOrders' philosophy.

And our great leader ("If there is going to be a dictator, I am glad it is me.") who is a homicidal maniac. He sanctioned and forced the murder of 1100 prisoners during his Reign of Terror as Governor of the state of Texas. Even his wife killed one of her best friends while joyriding at 17. That is what is in the WhiteHouse now. (People Magazine, September of 2000.) Absolute power corrupts...absolutely.
