- Beijing (PTI) - President
Pervez Musharraf today declared that Pakistan's armed forces were ready
to meet with force any adventurism by India in the wake of the "high
degree of tension" between the two nuclear states.

- "We will meet any threat or adventurism against
Pakistan by force. We will not allow any action across the border or Line
of Control. Pakistan's armed forces were ready to meet any challenge. We
hope India would not resort to any adventurism," Musharraf
said.

- Musharaf made these comments at a breakfast meeting with
newspaper editors and academicians in the backdrop of what he called a
"high degree of tension between the two nuclear states" after
India put the "blame" on Pakistan for the recent attack on
Parliament
in New Delhi.

- Musharraf said the situation could further escalate if
the root cause of differences between India and Pakistan is not properly
addressed, apparently referring to the Kashmir issue.

- He said Pakistan wants peace with India but peace with
honour and dignity.

- "We know how to guard sovereignty," he said,
adding "Pakistan is vigilant to safeguard its border."

- Referring to the deadlocked Agra summit, Musharraf said
he had gone to Agra with sincerity to establish good neighbourly relations
with India. But, he regretted that the Indian leadership backed out from
their commitment. he did not elaborate.

- Referring to Sino-Pak relations, Musharraf said no event
whatsoever in the region or around the world could ever change the
strategic
nature of Sino-Pak relations.
