Meet Any'Adventurism'
By India - Musharraf
12-21-1

Beijing (PTI) - President Pervez Musharraf today declared that Pakistan's armed forces were ready to meet with force any adventurism by India in the wake of the "high degree of tension" between the two nuclear states.

"We will meet any threat or adventurism against Pakistan by force. We will not allow any action across the border or Line of Control. Pakistan's armed forces were ready to meet any challenge. We hope India would not resort to any adventurism," Musharraf said.

Musharaf made these comments at a breakfast meeting with newspaper editors and academicians in the backdrop of what he called a "high degree of tension between the two nuclear states" after India put the "blame" on Pakistan for the recent attack on Parliament in New Delhi.

Musharraf said the situation could further escalate if the root cause of differences between India and Pakistan is not properly addressed, apparently referring to the Kashmir issue.

He said Pakistan wants peace with India but peace with honour and dignity.

"We know how to guard sovereignty," he said, adding "Pakistan is vigilant to safeguard its border."

Referring to the deadlocked Agra summit, Musharraf said he had gone to Agra with sincerity to establish good neighbourly relations with India. But, he regretted that the Indian leadership backed out from their commitment. he did not elaborate.

Referring to Sino-Pak relations, Musharraf said no event whatsoever in the region or around the world could ever change the strategic nature of Sino-Pak relations.
