- (TOKYO) - KDDI Corp. and a1adnet
Corp., a mobile ad agency, started experiments on Jan. 21 for distributing
ads to cellular phones using global positioning system (GPS) location information.
-
- Different contents will be provided in
response to the current location of the user. In the experiment, the companies
are collaborating with McDonald's Co. (Japan) Ltd. for delivery of shop
information of the nearest McDonald's burger shop to the "au"
cellular phone user.
-
- The experiment will be targeted at KDDI's
GPS-enabled cellular phones. Based on such location information, an ad
server set up for this experiment is to recognize the user's current location.
Then the user's "EZweb"-enabled monitor will display the menu
and map data of the nearest McDonald's locally differentiated shop among
the 126 locations within Tokyo metropolitan areas. The companies plan
to also deliver coupons or standby images using McDonald's characters exclusively
to users who access from a certain shop to a Web site they prepared.
-
- In the experiment, KDDI's map link service
"EZ@NAVI" is being used. KDDI and a1adnet will address technological
issues and operational know-how for verification to proceed toward commercialization
of a new advertising business.
