McKinney's Call For 9-11 Probe Is Nutty
Atlanta Journal-Constitution

OUR VIEW

It was only a matter of time before the nut cases began to promote a conspiracy theory about Sept. 11. And it was easy to predict what form it would take: "The U.S. government had prior warning about the attack but let it take place in order to have an excuse for retaliating, because waging war profits certain companies that would in turn pay huge sums to certain government officials who turned a deaf ear to the warning." (See Pearl Harbor conspiracy theories at www.conspiracy-nuts.com.)

But who could have guessed that the most prominent nut would have been our own U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.)? (OK, so some of you would have guessed. She does have an embarrassing history of infamous remarks.)

McKinney has called for an investigation into whether President Bush and other government officials had notice of the Sept. 11 attack but did nothing to prevent them, adding that "persons close to this administration are poised to make huge profits off America's new war."

"I am not aware of any evidence showing that President Bush or members of his administration have personally profited from the attack of 9/11," McKinney said in a California radio interview. "A complete investigation might reveal that to be the case."

Theoretically, she's right. But here's another theory:

While there is no proof that McKinney is fronting for the terrorist group al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, nor proof that she receives funding from foreign countries, an investigation might reveal that to be the case as well. One theory is as good as another.
