CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - President Hosni Mubarak canceled talks Wednesday with Secretary of State Colin Powell, capping a difficult U.S. mission that Arabs decried as a failure for not stopping Israel's offensive against the Palestinians.

Egyptian officials gave no reason why President Hosni Mubarak decided not to meet Powell. U.S. and Egyptian officials had said earlier the two would hold talks after Powell hastily scheduled a stopover in Cairo as he headed home from Israel.
