- MUNICH, Germany (Reuters)
- An elderly German man lost a briefcase with his life savings of 50,000
euros ($46,550) in cash and gold but had a lucky break when the finder
handed it to police, a police spokesman said Wednesday.
-
- The 75-year-old man left the briefcase on a train while
traveling to an old age home he was moving into.
-
- Police said they were trying to locate the 38-year-old
German man who returned the briefcase. They believe he knew what was in
it -- 22,000 euros in cash, four gold bars, jewelry and two savings books.
-
- "It's incredibly moving and kind that he did this.
It's good to know that there are still people like that," said Kai
Scholl, spokesman for the Munich Federal Border Police.
-
- The owner is obliged by law to pay the finder 3 percent
of value of the lost property, Scholl said. It was not clear if the reward
would be claimed.
