Scary Question On Fox News Poll
From Dave

Hello,

Was reading through Fox News website (gotta keep track of what they're up to) and went through a poll they had posted as of 6-6. Mostly the usual spin, Bush is God, etc. (gag) and then I came upon the following qustion:

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Residents of the United States must pass a test to obtain a driver's license before being allowed to drive a motor vehicle. Do you think residents should also be required to pass a test before being allowed to:

23. Buy a gun? Yes 77% No 18 NS 5
24. Become a parent? Yes 37% No 54 NS 9
25. Register to vote? Yes 47% No 48 NS 5 ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, the first thing that jumped out at me was that we, the people, were now being referred to as "residents," not citizens. There was no mention of aliens, legal or otherwise, or foreign visitors, but "residents," which could only mean you and I. (Perhaps we must prove our citizenship before the regime before we are recognized?)

Then question 25. Should "residents" be required to pass a "test" before being allowed to vote?

What!???!!!

Pass a test before we are "allowed" to vote???!!!

"ALLOWED"???!!!

To VOTE???!!!

Are we being primed for what is next?

Are our voting RIGHTS next in Herr Ashcroft's sites?

Instead of choosing which votes to count, will pResident and his pals now choose which of us can vote?

According to this poll, 47% (of residents, I guess) think it's a good idea!

Somebody, please wake me!

I have verified the wording of this question, which can be found on the FoxNews website. You can verify it by using the search feature at FoxNews.com. Simply type "allowed to vote" and click the first link on the hit-list.

I sent the following email to FoxNews and I encourage your listeners to send similar emails until they get the message and apologize for their ignorance of the Constitution of the United States of America.

This message concerns a FoxNews poll, the results of which were reported on June 7, 2002 in an internet article by Dana Blanton. Question 25 of this poll asked:

"Residents of the United States must pass a test to obtain a driver's license before being allowed to drive a motor vehicle. Do you think residents should also be required to pass a test before being allowed to: 25. Register to vote?"

Your choice of words for this question disturbs me for the following reasons:

1. Only citizens of the U.S.A. can vote. Resident aliens cannot vote under any circumstances in any state. "Residents of the United States" is a phrase that encompasses anyone living in this country: native citizens, naturalized citizens, and aliens (legal or illegal).

2. Citizens of the U.S.A. are not "allowed" to vote. Most of us are born with this right. The rest acquire it through naturalization. We must simply register with our local election board in order to exercise this constitutional right. We cannot lose this right unless we renounce our citizenship or receive a felony conviction. The Federal government is not granted the power to "allow" or "tolerate" our voting.

The person responsible for writing this question is apparently ignorant of the most basic constitutional principles of the United States of America. Unless I see or hear an on-air apology for this moronic error within the next seven days, I will no longer watch your programming and I will actively boycott your advertisers.

I am sorry that I must make such a threat. I thoroughly enjoy most of the television you provide, and I greatly appreciate your efforts to provide a genuine conservative perspective on the news of each day. Nevertheless, I cannot tolerate such a blatant display of stupidity; and I am not alone.
