Louisiana, Tennessee Add
To West Nile Death Count

ATLANTA (UPI) -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Monday reported at least 146 people have died from West Nile virus this year and 2,736 people have contracted the disease.
 
After the CDC figures came out, Louisiana reported its 15th West Nile death, a 70-year-old man from the Baton Rouge area, and boosted its caseload to 293. Tennessee reported a 60-year-old Davidson County man died from the mosquito-borne disease, becoming the state's sixth victim.
 
Illinois leads the nation in West Nile deaths with 36 in 640 cases, followed by Michigan with 28 deaths in 401 cases. Louisiana has the third highest totals.
