- BAQUBA, Iraq (AFP) -- A US
army vehicle was destroyed early today when an American patrol hit mines
at a village near the town of Baquba, 65 kilometres northeast of Baghdad,
an eyewitness said.

- The village of Abara was sealed off after the attack,
in which four mines exploded, at about 1am (7am AEST), said the witness
who requested anonymity.

- An American helicopter fired two missiles at a nearby
farm and US troops were conducting house-to-house searches, he said.

- There were no reports of casualties.

- Baquba is home to both Sunni and Shiite Muslims, and
has been a regular battleground between US troops and guerrilla insurgents
believed to be linked to ousted dictator Saddam Hussein.

- The US army said it could not immediately confirm the
incident.
