- Children as young as five have high levels of tooth decay,
says research by dental experts.
-
- In some areas they have more than three decayed, missing
or filled teeth.
-
- The British Dental Association yesterday called on MPs
to protect dental health by supporting the Water Bill, which backs greater
fluoridation.
-
- The BDA league table showed children with the healthiest
teeth lived in areas with fluoridated water. In Manchester children have
on average three times more tooth decay than in Birmingham, which has had
fluoridation for 40 years.
-
- Environmentalists are opposed to it as a health risk
but BDA chairman Dr John Renshaw said: "It is tragic, in this day
and age, that there are children with such high levels of tooth decay.
And the real tragedy is much of it could be avoided."
