RFID Chips Headed For
Use In Dutch Libraries

Hi Jeff,

It has come to my attention that in the Netherlands libraries are making definite moves towards the use of RFID chips not only on ALL books, but also on all other media (CD, DVD, &c).
As you can understand this is a very grave problem and to my knowledge has not been adequately questioned. Every time the point of view seems to be the "cost reduction" it will provide. To put it simply: it is praised, while the problems it raises are not mentioned.

Companies that will make use of this technology thereby support it and give it a stronger footing.
I urge anyone who lives in the Netherlands or Europe (as other countries are sure to follow if they do not already use it at present) to write to your local library and tell them you do not want this technology associated with the service they provide. If you do not understand why anyone would be against this new technology invading their lives from all possible angles I recommend you read the articles posted on this website (www.rense.com) and the websites those articles originate from.

The Netherlands seems already in place to start testing, and afterwards using on a larger scale, this technology in certain libraries VERY SOON.

These are some Dutch websites about libraries and RFID:

http://www.debibliotheken.nl/projecten/show.asp?PRO_ID=119&DEP_ID=2
(As can be seen in the detailed pdf file linked to from this article every rfid chip will have an unique number as known.)

http://www.nbd.nl (Website of the Dutch library supplier)

http://www.oba.nl (Public library of Amsterdam)

This article mentions two libraries (in the city of Heiloo and Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht) that are going to use the RFID chips:

A google.nl search for rfid and nbd will provide some additional articles.
