- (AFP) -- Two US soldiers were killed when an explosive
device blew up as they were driving in a convoy north of Baghdad, a military
spokeswoman said.

- "Two soldiers were killed yesterday (Tuesday) 40
kilometers (25 miles) northeast of Balad," the spokeswoman said.

- She said the soldiers of the 4th Infantry Division were
killed when an explosive device detonated as their convoy passed by.

- Balad is located 75 kilometers (45 miles) north of Baghdad,
within an area known as the Sunni Triangle where US troops come under daily
attack.

- The deaths bring to 116 the number of US soldiers killed
in combat since major hostilities officially ended on May 1.
