Introduction "According to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, 33 percent of all homeless men are veterans, as is nearly one-fourth of the homeless population in general."

Interview 1: Andy "I have no future. My future is death. I'm looking forward to that. Most 'Nam vets are... And that's one of the reason I do drugs, you know? To kill that pain. I live with demons, you know? I can't explain that to you. Only a 'Nam vet can understand."

Interview 2: Joseph "You can sleep on the streets now easier than it ever happened before. A year ago, the spots where I'm sleeping, they would never allow it. But with the business failure and the dot-com and all that stuff that blew out of here, all them places are empty. All them big buildings, they're all empty."

Interview 3: Rusty "I can only think of four people in the two years I was [in Vietnam] who did not do drugs of some sort... The sergeant got ahold of those drugs and gave it to you. There were three different types of heroin... Oh, God, any type of drug you wanted, I probably did it in Vietnam. Mostly speed to keep you up."

Interview 4: "Viola I joined the merchant seamen... stayed there for over 15 years. 'You did [crack cocaine] the whole time you were in the merchant marine?' Yes. No problem getting drugs."

Interview 5: Dave "I'm 70 percent disabled. I get $60 a month for it. Agent Orange in my lungs.
