- NASA scientists received the first remarkable images of Mars late on
Saturday from a robotic explorer that landed on the planet just hours earlier.

- The pictures, which showed the lander itself as well
as Martian vistas and the huge crater where it landed, were greeted by
loud cheers at the space agency's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena,
