SECUNDA - A 43-year-old woman was taken from her house in Secunda, Mpumalanga, and allegedly injected with HIV, police reported on Thursday.

Sergeant Charles Nkosi said the woman was injected with a substance on Monday after an ordeal during which she was kidnapped from her home and forced to drive her attackers across Mpumalanga from Secunda to Kriel via Bethal.

The woman was abducted after investigating barking dogs at 03:00 on Monday.

She saw a man jumping over a fence when she opened her front door, and was soon thereafter pushed back into her house by two other men, wearing balaclavas.

After she had told them she did not have a firearm and money the man instructed her to drive them around in her car, said Nkosi.

They travelled to Bethal and later to Kriel, where they stopped on a gravel road.

Nkosi also said a Mercedes Benz stopped behind the woman's car and another man came out with a knife and threatened to cut her throat.

Then one of the attackers said they would give her AIDS and injected her with something, Nkosi said. The four men drove off in the Mercedes Benz, Nkosi also said.

He added the woman had undergone an HIV test and was waiting for results.
