- BAGHDAD (Reuters) -- A blast
ripped through a Baghdad neighborhood late on Saturday killing at least
one person and wounding several others, witnesses said.
-
- The explosion was in the same Baladiyyat district of
Baghdad where an earlier explosion killed at least five civilians, according
to hospital sources.
-
- Relatives said one man died on the way to hospital from
shrapnel wounds sustained in the explosion.
-
- "We heard the blast and saw that the deceased was
missing," said Ali Muzan. "He died on the way to the hospital."
-
- The U.S. military said it was aware of the explosions
but had no information about them.
-
- U.S. forces have been on high alert for the possibility
of stepped-up guerrilla attacks over the Eid al-Adha Muslim holiday. Two
other attacks in northern Iraq on Saturday killed three U.S. soldiers and
at least nine Iraqis.
