- LONDON (UPI) -- Claims that
a 104-year-old foul-mouthed parrot once belonged to Winston Churchill have
been dismissed by experts, the BBC reports.
-
- Peter Oram, owner of parrot Charlie, who is housed at
a garden center in Surrey, England, says that in his prime the blue and
white macaw lived with the British wartime leader. He claims his father-in-law
sold the bird to Winston in 1937, taking the bird back after the former
prime minister's death in 1965.
-
- The bird is famous at Heathfield Nurseries in Reigate,
where he entertains customers with streams of obscene anti-Nazi tirades.
These were picked up, says Oram, from Churchill who loved animals
-
- While it is known he kept dogs, cats and pigs, National
Trust staff at Churchill's former country home found no records of a parrot.
Judith Seaward, marketing manager at Chartwell, said, "We have searched
what we've got here and spoken to members of the family who I really thought
would have known."
