- Toxins were found in over half of breakfast cereals and
muesli bars by the UK Food Standards Agency researchers.
-
- Traces of mycotoxins were found in 335 brand-name products
in this study.
-
- Mycotoxins can lead to sickness, diarrhoea and even death
(in extreme cases).
-
- The UK agency says that they found three different types
of mycotoxins (in 174 samples out of the 335 total).
-
- They also pointed out that the amounts are minimal and
should not pose a health risk as long as the consumer follows a varied
and balanced diet.
-
- More worrying was baby food. They examined 21 products
and found that three of them had levels well above the European Union safety
limits.
-
- Many of these products are international brands that
can be found all over the world.
