- "...the law does not recognize attacks carried out
by Jews as hostile terrorist activity."
-
- Haifa resident Eliran Golan, 22, is suspected of terrorist
activity against Arab residents of the northern coastal city, after he
prepared explosive devices and placed them in various locations in Haifa,
including a mosque.
-
- Police suspect Eliran's father, Meir Golan, a civilian
employed by the Israel Defense Forces, was aware of his son's activities
but did not report him to the authorities. Eliran Golan lives in his father's
house.
-
- Golan admitted to preparing bombs and planting them near
Arab targets, and said that he did so for ideological reasons. Golan, who
said he regarded himself as a far-right activist, had been released from
the Israel Defense Forces for psychological reasons.
-
- Details of the affair, which were released for publication
late Thursday afternoon, were disclosed at a press conference held by Northern
District police commander Major General Yaakov Borovsky.
-
- Golan's terror-related activity included the planting
of nine explosive devices in Haifa between 2001-2004, including one at
a mosque in the Halisa neighborhood in August 2001, which lightly wounded
one woman.
-
- Golan also placed a bomb under the car of MK Issam Makhoul
(Hadash) while it was parked near his house three months ago. The bomb
detonated when Makhoul's wife started the car, but she was unhurt.
-
- Golan planted additional bombs under the cars and adjacent
to the homes of Arab residents of Haifa. He also allegedly planted explosives
near the homes of Jews who had befriended Arabs, including Doron's former
employer at a delivery service, Lior Flick.
-
- Information uncovered during the course of the police
interrogation of Golan indicated he planned to carry out terror attacks
against MK Mohammed Barakeh (Hadash), MK Ahmed Tibi (Hadash), and MK Azmi
Bishara (Balad-National Democratic Alliance).
-
- On Wednesday, police presented to the media two suitcases
filled with explosives and weapons, allegedly prepared by Eliran Golan.
Among the explosives were 16 large bombs ready for use, as well as 18 smaller
bombs. According to suspicion, Golan also prepared six improvised nail
guns, capable of killing human beings.
-
- An additional suitcase contained dozens of bullets, matchboxes,
and accessories for preparing improvised bombs.
-
- On Wednesday, the remands of both Meir and Eliran Golan
were extended by six days.
-
- Woman wounded in mosque bombing not recognized as terror
victim
-
- Six months ago, Haaretz reported the woman who was wounded
at the Haifa mosque bombing, Jamila Agbariyah, had not been recognized
by the National Insurance Institute as a terror victim.
-
- The NII stated that even if police prove the attack was
an act of terror, she would not be eligible for compensation, because the
law does not recognize attacks carried out by Jews as hostile terrorist
activity.
