- BAGHDAD (Reuters) -- Guerrillas
fired at least two rockets or mortars at the headquarters of the U.S.-led
administration in Baghdad on Friday, but there were no reports of damage
or casualties, the U.S. military said.
-
- The blasts, on the eve of the anniversary of the U.S.-led
invasion, came less than an hour after President Bush ended a speech in
Washington calling for unity and determination in the fight against terrorism.
-
- After the blasts, warning sirens sounded in the U.S.
headquarters compound, which is known as the "Green Zone" and
is one of Saddam Hussein's former palace complexes. The area has been targeted
repeatedly by guerrillas firing rockets and mortars.
-
- Iraq's U.S. governor, Paul Bremer, spoke live to CNN
from inside the Green Zone shortly after the blasts. "We think they
are outside the Green Zone but we just don't know yet. It's only just happened,"
he said.
-
- Secretary of State Colin Powell had spent several hours
in the headquarters compound earlier on Friday before leaving for Saudi
Arabia.
