- LONDON (Reuters) -- One British
civilian and one Canadian were killed in an attack in the northern Iraqi
city of Mosul on Sunday, officials in Canada and Britain said.
-
- Witnesses said two foreigners were killed in the attack
in the increasingly insecure city on Sunday morning.
-
- The bodies of two men, wearing blue flak jackets, lay
in the road beside their burned-out vehicle, a white four-wheel drive,
for an hour after the attack in an eastern part of the city.
-
- "I can confirm that one British national was killed
in Mosul," a foreign office spokesman in London said. "I can't
give any further details until the next of kin have been informed.
-
- A spokesman at Canada's foreign affairs ministry in Ottawa
said a Canadian had been killed in the incident, but gave no further details.
-
- Witnesses said the men were civilians working at the
Mosul East power station and were on their way to the plant in a convoy
of two cars when they came under fire from attackers with AK-47s. One vehicle
was hit.
-
- Three other foreigners had managed to reach the power
station after the shooting, witnesses said.
