- The Madrid bombings on Thursday, March 11, have eerie
numeric links to the Sept. 11, 2001, al Qaida attacks on the Pentagon and
the World Trade Center in New York. Not only did the Madrid bombings occur
two and a half years, to the day, after the U.S. assaults, but there were
also exactly 911 days between the two terror attacks. Spanish officials
have not been able to determine who is responsible for Thursday's commute-hour
bombings, in which almost 200 people were killed and more than 1,400 injured.
