Martha Stewart may have been found guilty of obstructing justice, conspiracy and making false statement to securities investigators. She may have asked 100 friends to write letters to the judge to persuade him not to send her to jail. She may have apologised to shareholders and resigned. But this has not stopped her being shortlisted for two top publishing awards.

Martha Stewart Living, the disgraced guru's lifestyle magazine about cooking and home decor, has been shortlisted in two categories in the National Magazine Awards. One is for the quality of its photography but the other is for general excellence in magazines with circulation of more than two million. It is in competition for the main prize with Newsweek, National Geographic, Time and O, Oprah Winfrey's monthly title.

The nomination is a boost to the magazine, which lost 44 per cent of its advertising income last year because advertisers did not want to be associated with Stewart's legal problems.

Shares in her company, Martha Stewart Omnimedia, collapsed from $14.45 to $9.55 after she was convicted earlier this month and many TV stations have axed her cooking show.
