Statement From Author
Greg Long On Patterson Film

3-8-4

"Thanks, Jeff, for inviting me on your program. It's been a long six years since I first began researching and writing about the Patterson film, and now all the hard work has borne fruit. I couldn't have guessed back then that I'd have made an appearance on your program, along with Robert Kiviat and Kal Korff, finally being able to tell the truth about this hoax film. Thank you for providing me the opportunity to broadcast, for the first time, information the general public needs to know, and has a right to know. about a piece of celluloid that's been treated, frankly, like a religious idol and worshipped by a large number of uninformed people.

You know, the famous Bigfooter, John Green in Canada, told me, when I visited him and told him I was going to write a book about Roger Patterson, "Nobody will want read a book about Roger Patterson". I knew right then that he was wrong, and he's been proven wrong. People are yearning to read this book. I'll tell you why: people really want to get down to the bottom of this hoax. It's been talked about for years, and especially on TV documentaries the past 6 years. Bob Kiviat and Kal Korff were working on this problem, although from a different angle, years before I started looking in Patterson.

Let me dispel a notion that's been floating around on the Net that I and Kal Korff worked together on Bob Kiviat's World's Greatest Hoaxes: Secrets Finally Revealed which aired on FOX on Dec 28, 1998. That allegation is totally and absolutely false. I was pursuing my own line of inquiry. I never even heard of Bob Kiviat's name until Dec of 1998; and had never met Bob Kiviat, In fact, I've talked to him two or three times on the phone So, people need to drop this fiction immediately.

Second, Kal Korff has written the introduction to The Making of Bigfoot, but nothing else in my book, except a few paragraphs that I edited that form his account of solving the "feet" problem on the Bigfoot. That particular item about the Bigfoot's fake feet are dealt with in my book. Kal has reviewed my facts, as has Kiviat, and that's it. So, I'm totally independent of these two gentlemen as far as my findings go.

Also, this fiction that Korff is a "debunker" is another falsehood. My Webster's New World College Dictionary defines the word "debunk" this way: "to expose the false or exaggerated claims of" something. Well, that's what I do in my book, I expose a false claim. And that's what Kal is doing. But he's NOT A DEBUNKER IN THE SENSE of A CLOSE-MINDED SKEPTIC. I know Kal's working on many other projects where the truth must be told. One is terrorism; he's working on a book called Secret Wars; and I've got a glimpse of it. Believe me, people are going to be wildly surprised by that book.

Actually, what I did in my book is what any enterprising lawyer or police investigator or fraud investigator does - find the facts, assess the facts, compare the facts, analyze the facts, weigh them, and draw a conclusion. The truth of Patterson was revealed to me by people who knew him, not by me. Once people read the Making of Bigfoot, their jaws will fall open, and they'll see that I am not a debunker, but just a person who was and IS a person interested in finding the truth. No one, NO ONE, I repeat, can call me a debunker or a liar or whatever, because they aren't me; and I know a fact from an untruth. I take the stance that ANYTHING, I mean ANYTHING, can be analyzed, and that facts speak for themselves. Once you determine that a fact is indeed a "fact," then it's a matter of weighing that fact against all the others. That's called CONNECTING THE DOTS.

Ok, does Bigfoot exist? Bigfoot could exist. Why not? Botantists find new plants everyday, new insects are discovered. There's even video footage of an apparent hybrid ape -- the result of the mating of an ape and a chimpanzee -- in Africa. That footage was aired last year on CNN. The video appears legitimate, so far. Sure, Bigfoot could exist. But if the Bigfooters want to prove it, they need to clean house, and start deep-sixing a lot of the junk that has accumulated in their files over the last half century. They need to dump hoax cases that keep hanging on; they need to start raising the bar, and defining new standards of evidence; they need to start focusing on their witnesses as well as their witness's claims.

Yes, Bigfoot could exist, there are plenty of reports coming out of the Pacific Northwest, and many from credible people, but as long as those people claiming Bigfoot exists cover up or peddle their poorly-investigated cases, the so-called Bigfoot community will get nowhere. I'm also a strong advocate of responsible, fact-based journalism.

Frankly, the media over the years have abdicated their responsibility to dig into the Patterson case. Why? "It makes a good story, right?" Sure, the Patterson film makes a good story. But where were the journalists who looked deeply into this case over the past nearly 4 decades, until Kiviatt, Korff, and I came along? Nowhere. I urge contemporary journalists to do some digging of their own; there might be a great story in Bigfoot-but the Bigfooters better be prepared to provide information and the truth, not general theories and complaints about how they just aren't understand by academic scientists.

Finally, I want to say that Bob Kiviatt and Kal Korff are COMMITTED AND DEDICATED TO FINDING THE TRUTH. I've never met in my life two of the hardest working individuals in the fields of television documentary and the print media than these two guys. NEVER. I know for a fact that their main goal is to GET TO THE BOTTOM OF CONTROVERSIAL AND DEBATED CASES AND TO PRESENT EVIDENCE THAT MIGHT POINT TO OR PROVE A REAL, UNEXPLAINED PHENOMENON EXISTS. Every word I've written in The Making of Bigfoot has been published on strict standards of EVIDENCE and WHAT WOULD STAND UP IN A COURT OF LAW.

My findings are BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT. I've been asked tough questions by Kal and Bob Kiviatt; believe me, they haven't left me off the hook. Their role in the whole Patterson affair is to get the truth out to the world. It's as simple as that. The public has the right to know. It's time for flim-flam and unbased, unsupported claims to END. I welcome people who can PROVE ME WRONG in The Making of Bigfoot . I know I'm NOT WRONG, but if people feel otherwise, they NEED TO DISPROVE ME.
