- In news just in from Afghanistan, on Sunday morning in
the province of Kandahar, an American convoy was the target of a brutal
attack by a group of 30 Taliban Mujahideen armed with remote controlled
landmines and rockets. The ambush was so severe that reports in claim that
at least twelve Americans were killed instantly.

- According to Hamid Agha, a Taliban spokesman, the operation
took place near the town of May Nasheen when a 15 vehicle convoy of American
forces was attacked by Taliban Mujahideen, 30 men strong. Landmines armed
with remote controlled detonators were used to destroy the first two vehicles
and then RPGs were used to destroy two others. Reports have been received
that at least twelve Americans were killed, while 2 translators were severely
wounded and were transported to a military hospital. No Afghan forces were
in the convoy.

- Meanwhile in other parts of the country, a total of 21
soldiers were killed and five vehicles were destroyed.

- According to details, in Khost, the Taliban attacked
a convoy of Afghan and Coalition forces were en route from Khost to Gardez
on Saturday evening, killing four soldiers and destroying 5 military vehicles.

- The Taliban have also stepped up attacks on border security
forces in the country. An attack on a border check post controlled by Coalition
forces was hit with rockets and machine guns, killing four government officials
and wounding seven others.

- In Gardez and Paktia, attacks against Afghan forces conducting
house to house searches resulted in deaths of two Afghan soldiers and several
others wounded.

- In Khost, an American and three Afghan soldiers were
killed in another attack on a check post. According to details, the Taliban
were traveling by road and when they stopped at the check post and opened
fire on the soldiers with rockets and grenades. Later on they escaped and
Coalition and Afghan forces tried to capture them. In the ensuing chase
from the forward base in Khost, a friendly fire incident occurred with
the Afghan and American soldiers opened fire on each other, each suspecting
the other of being Taliban. Three Afghan soldiers were killed in the attack.
