- (Note - There is a lot of noise on the net that something
'bad' is about to happen to the US, with several predicting the time of
the event will fall within the next week or so. Numerous forecasts of
doom and catastrophe are being made by a number of individuals online.
Did Nostradamus warn about such, too? Ian Gurney thinks so -ed)

- Over the last few months there have been numerous reports
in the media and on the internet regarding a catastrophe that will overwhelm
the United States. Most of this information comes from the somewhat contentious
(and often contradictory -ed) writings and broadcasts of David Booth, whose
book some say is plagarised. Booth talks about the destruction of the United
States by a planetary body that is due to collide (or pass by very closely
-ed) with Earth and predicts the imminent appearance of the storied "PlanetX"
in our skies.

- He claims that this destruction (or some non-specified
but deadly event -ed) will take place around May this year. (Booth assured
that the time frame was between April 20 and May 20 -ed)

- Whatever the rights and wrongs of this issue and the
references made in these articles about the appearance of a "doomsday"
comet or asteroid, there is one prophecy that has been with us for almost
500 years now which does seems to predict a huge catastrophe in the United
States in the month of May.

- The sun in twenty degrees of Taurus there will be a great
earthquake. The great theatre full up will be ruined, The air, sky and
land will be dark and troubled, Then the unbeliever will call on God and
the saints.

- As each of the twelve sun signs covers a period of 30
days, and there are 360 degrees in a circle; then each day is one degree.
The sun enters Taurus on April 21st and therefore 20 degrees of Taurus
is 20 days later. In this way Nostradamus has given us the date of May
10th for this great earthquake. In the second line the words "Le grand
theatre are hard to explain. Could it be however, that this is Nostradamus,
way of describing Hollywood, the movie making capital of the world, with
its huge sound stages and enormous studios scattered around Los Angeles
and Burbank. To a man in the 16th Century, Los Angeles could surely be
described as a "great theatre".

- The reference to the air, sky and land being dark and
troubled seems to evoke a picture of a terrible calamity on earth involving
not only a great earthquake, but also a perhaps a cataclysmic volcanic
eruption. The eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano, which continues
to worry geologists at the USGS, would send so much debris into the atmosphere
that it would block out the sun's rays for many years, causing famine and
death on an unimaginable scale. The sheer force of its explosion would
destroy everything within a 1000 kilometer radius. However, it could also
apply to the situation in America right now, as the mood of the American
people is certainly dark and troubled by the revelations of torture and
continual loss of life in Iraq.

- In the last line of the quatrain, this catastrophe invokes
a response from "l,infidelle" or unbeliever who calls upon God
and the Saints. Just who this "unbeliever" or "infidel is
exactly is not clear, but in light of the current situation in Iraq and
the Islamic world, such a disaster on American soil would certainly invoke
huge demonstrations of joy amongst Moslems, with cries of "God is
great" ringing out around Arab and Islamic countries. An earthquake
then, rather than the appearance of "Planet X", may be the catastrophe
that is coming to America. Tomorrow we will all find out.
