- BAGHDAD (AFP) -- A US soldier
was killed in a rocket-propelled grenade attack in eastern Baghdad, according
to a senior military spokesman.

- The attack was around 5:00 am (0100 GMT), the spokesman
said Thursday.

- According to Pentagon figures it would take the US military
death toll to at least 722 since the war in Iraq began in March last year,
521 of them in combat.

- Some 125 US soldiers have died in April 2004, more than
in the six weeks of the "major combat" operations until May 1,
2003 after the toppling of Saddam Hussein's regime.
