The Good, The Bad
And The Ugly

Regarding the situation in Iraq at the moment and the continuing scandal over the torture and murder of Iraqi prisoners, I'm put in mind of Sergio Leone's wonderful film "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly".

As most people will remember, the character played by Clint Eastwood, the mysterious poncho clad cheeroot smoker and bounty hunter, captures Eli Wallach and rides into town with him strapped to his horse.

Eastwood arrives at the sheriff's office, dismounts and enters the office. Some moments later the sheriff appears and Wallach exclaims "Ha! One bastard goes in and another bastard comes out".

Any similarities between the characters portrayed in the film and America's actions in Iraq are, I'm sure, purely coincidental.
