- BAGHDAD - The US government
has pulled out all the stops to stem the fallout from the prisoner abuse
scandal, but this has not stopped Iraqis from snapping up CDs of the images
on the streets of Baghdad.
-
- Among the pirated copies of Hollywood mo- vies like Titanic
was a new blockbuster: graphic images of abuse at the notorious Abu Ghraib
jail, CNN reported.
-
- A voice-over of an imam extolled viewers to fight against
'Americans, crusaders and Zionists'.
-
- Baghdad resident Sabri Nasser said he had come to the
market to look for the video.
-
- 'Now that I have it, I can see it with my own eyes. I
see the crimes committed by the Americans against the Iraqi people.'
-
- Mr Hassan Hamoud Gati said he had sold more than 6,000
copies at 50 US cents (86 Singapore cents) apiece.
-
- 'At first we were very happy with the prospect of democracy
and freedom, but now look at what's come with this freedom and democracy,'
Mr Hassan told CNN.
-
- The US had pledged to demolish Abu Ghraib, but the sales
showed that the scandal was unlikely to fade quickly from the minds of
most Iraqis.
