- A series of explosions has rocked a US base in the northern
Iraqi oil city of Kirkuk, reports say. Iraqi police said they occurred
when missiles hit an ammunition store at the base, near the city airport.
-
- There are no reports of casualties. Fire engines have
been seen rushing to the scene.
-
- A reporter from Reuters news agency said he saw shells
and rockets light up the night sky over the base as the area became covered
in thick smoke.
-
- The blast happened at about 2200 local time (1800 GMT).
-
- The chaos was still continuing an hour later, the reporter
said.
-
- US military officials have been unable to confirm the
blasts.
-
- There has been a recent upsurge of violence in the area,
a key part of Iraq's northern oilfields.
