Escaped Balloon Or UFO?
Cellphone Cam Captures A Mysterious Floater

It appears Greg captured a run away balloon... but one never knows!

In Denver, Colorado on July 4, 2004 at 18:53, I was lucky enough to snap this pic on a Motorola V600 cell phone. The object was leaving in a straight line horizontal to the ground and was silent. As with most UFO pics, this one is woefully out of focus and even I have to admit that by itself is much of nothing. I have no idea on altitude but I'd say about 500'.

Anyways, I am not a big UFO enthusiast and don't really think we are being visited BUT I saw what I saw. The attached pic is the only one I have.

Given that it was the 4th it could easily have been anything other than an alien UFO. The object seemed to be an elongated spheroid (okay, balloon shape) and the sighting lasted not longer than 5 seconds. I had literally just enough time to aim (not get the image in the viewfinder/screen) and click. I was sure what I had until I was able to see it at home on the big screen. The path it took was flat and level and one thought I did have was that it could have been a large balloon. I don't know the altitude so a guess on the size is hard. Unfortunately I have no witnesses beyond myself and the joke is I was at a party with 30 people. This was a very quick encounter and I tend to be a big alien UFO skeptic. Trust me, I am one of the biggest skeptics out there and have always demanded extraordinary evidence for extraordinary claims. What would have been interesting is if someone else had submitted a pic about the same time and area.

About all I can be sure of is...

It lasted not longer than 5 seconds
We had very little wind
It vanished over the trees
It flew straight and horizontal
It was silent
The camera was a V600 Motorola cell phone

I took the pic from the hip and my hand was in motion during the exposure so that might account for everything being blurred except the object. At the time my first thought was "Cool, a Fuji Film blimp" but it became nearly instantly apparent it was not a blimp. I am willing to chalk this up to just some freak occurrence with some rogue 4th of July balloon with it being just over the trees and the clouds playing tricks with the light.

If someone had another pic from the same area THAT would be very interesting. Right now I am the first to admit that it is a very bad and blurred image at low resolution and by itself proves not a thing.

By the way, if this is THE James Neff who does the artwork and renderings, you do very good work. I have consistently enjoyed some of the images you have created.

Thanks,
Greg Goede
