US Doctors Being Forced
To Leave America

From Charleston Voice

As a point of reference, my mother who is 90 and from Maine had been visiting us for the past three weeks and flew home yesterday. The gent who meets her plane in Portland told her on the ride up to Waterville that his sister-in-law and seven others she knew who were all OB-GYN doctors were all pulling out. The reason? Their malpractice insurance premiums were unaffordable. One was $70,000 per year. And where are they contemplating heading? Laos, Philippines, and Thailand had all made welcoming offers for their services. Remind you, this is Maine - not your mainstream heavily-populated urban type state!

Check around your own state. I'll bet you've got a similar situation. Congress has made our social fabric everywhere easy plunder for trial lawyers.

In effect, what our government is doing is driving private medical practices out of the country. And, also keep in mind, that the Republican congress has had more than four years to change this. What will Americans do? Why, look to government for a solution, of course, the same government that gave us the problem in the first place!

Hi Jeff,

The writer of this obviously has bought into the push to blame all lawyers for the rise in health care costs and malpractice insurance. What he and probably most other people do not understand is that the insurance industry drives the rising cost of malpractice insurance through the deceptive practices used to claim need for rising rates. In the current political arena, corporations rule the roost.

Doctors have to take insurance in order to bill for third party payment. If they stop taking insurance then costs come down because you do not have to have a staff of people to deal with the game playing, payment withholding antics of the labor heavy insurance company. These companies also play many games to delay payment and use other obfuscating techniques. Why do you think that people working for some corporation now need to pay more and more of their own health care costs?

This could change once the people fighting for tort reform realize it is the health care corporations and the insurers as much as it is the legal establishment that is party to all of this, and it is also the person who has insurance but does not understand they would be better off with Major Medical only and pay out of pocket for health care, and also take more personal responsibility for their own health.
