Independence In Palestine
& Freedom For The World

Independence Day tends to be a catchall for a whole raft of stuff that has nothing to do with Independence or Freedom in the deepest sense of those two terms. But there is a place where this is still the literal difference between life and death.

International fears are centered on the Far East, where we've sent seven Strike Force Carriers to a rendezvous point in the South China Sea. This, coupled with the temporary assignment of a squadron of Stealth Fighter-Bombers that we just reassigned to South Korea, gives our up-coming war games with Taiwan a lot more punch. This raises the global temperature and brings us to a potential flashpoint that may well incinerate us all.

Meanwhile, NATO seems to be searching for something to do. This is a huge multi-national military force with vast potential and very little political direction. Until now NATO has tended to follow orders from the USA. But thanks to the Bush Doctrine of 2002, those days are rapidly becoming a thing of the past.

The single most glaring global failure diplomatically, has been the continuing standoff in the Middle East, over the plight of the Palestinian people. This has been further complicated by the fact that no actual story of this tragedy has appeared in English, for readers in the West. http://www.aljazeerah.info/Opinion%20editorials/2003%20Opinion%20

Given the lack of US leadership on this crucial matter, and given the fact, that because of their heavy-handed and criminal treatment of the Palestinians by the Israeli militaryit is clear that something more is called for-now. NATO should have more than a little interest in this, as they too have become a target for the out-of-control passions of the outlaw Jewish state.

The major problems facing the world today can be traced to the outright barbarity of Israeli policies, mostly in the Middle East, but not limited to that region. The core for this belligerence seems to stem from Israel's desire to crush the former State of Palestine.

On this day of national Independence here, perhaps we might want to remember that Freedom "from" tyranny was one of our basic principles for maintaining any form of liberty. In light of the fact that the United Nations has become a virtual paper tiger, and that NATO is available at the moment, why not ask NATO to step into the Israeli-Palestinian question, with full and determined military force?

Since the United States has capitulated totally to the Zionist cause in this arena, and can no longer act as an honest power broker maybe the time has come for NATO and the European Union to step forward and avert World War III, by defusing the global tensions that surround a real peace accord between Palestine and Israel?

This 50-year war needs to be ended, fairly. And whoever steps between these two parties, must have the force and staying power to ensure that a just and lasting peace can be obtained. NATO with its multi-dimensional alliances and participants could be the one international force that could make this intractable problem just a part of history, instead of a continuing daily headline around the world.

Maybe then, the peoples of that region could begin to get back to pondering their Freedom "to pursue" their lives, instead of having to continue to live in Israeli concentration camps; camps that were created by their occupiers more than 35 years ago to house them as a conquered people.

None of this was supposed to happen under the rules of war and the rights guaranteed by the Geneva conventions-but Israel pays no attention to what the world might want, or to the resolutions of the UN. And because Israel hides behind the bluster of our dictator and our military shield, she can't be held accountable for her continuing crimes against the Palestinian people.

The Palestinians are the people that Israel is internationally charged with 'protecting' under the rules of war and the Palestinians are under her responsibility as the sole occupying power upon the ground.

NATO could accomplish two things with this effort. The long elusive "Peace in the Middle East" could finally be embraced, and the power vacuum left by the absence of American "leadership" could be filled by a real multi-national power with the muscle and the will to finally conclude this festering cancer upon the world and most of the people in it.

All that remains is for NATO to show the spine that George W, Bush does not have, and take the lead in world affairs, to stop this deadly drift toward global self-destruction that Cheney-Bush-Sharon have set in motion.

Why NOT?
