to rest the false notion that all is well in Afghanistan. In fact, all
is not well. Afghanistan is a swamp for foreign armies. Those that entered
Afghanistan have always sank to the bottom of the swamp and could not draw
themselves out. The US situation there is no exception to this rule.

- Taleban Kill 12 US Troops In Central Afghanistan

- As a result of severe fighting between US troops and
Taleban insurgents, 12 US troops and six Taleban fighters have been killed
in Urozgan Province [central Afghanistan].

- Taleban spokesman Mufti Latifollah Hakimi told [Iranian]
external radio service that the severe fighting erupted this morning after
US troops laid siege to an area where there were a number of Taleban in
Barika village [phonetic], Dehrawut District in Urozgan Province.

- As a result of a heavy exchange of fire, the Taleban
fighters pushed back the US troops and managed to break the siege.

- Following the fighting, US aircraft bombarded the Barika
area, injuring five villagers. Later the US troops took these villagers
to an unknown place.

- Reporting about another clash, Mufti Latifollah Hakimi,
the spokesman for the Taleban, said: Five Afghan government troops have
been killed in a clash with the Taleban in southeastern Afghanistan. The
soldiers were killed in a Taleban attack on a government convoy which used
to guard the governor of Ghazni Province in Dara-e Chahardah [phonetic]
in Nawor District, Ghazni Province, early this morning, he added.
