- (VOA) - A U.S military helicopter has crashed in Afghanistan,
killing at least one American soldier and injuring 14.
-
- A U.S military spokesman, Major Rick Peat, says the Black
Hawk helicopter crashed in the eastern Afghan province of Khost.
-
- He says four personnel were seriously injured and were
evacuated to a hospital at Bargam air base, outside Kabul. The spokesman
ruled out involvement of hostile fire.
-
- "There was no fire and the cause of the accident
is under investigation," Major Peat said.
-
- Major Peat says the helicopter was destroyed in the crash
but did not burn. He says other attack helicopters and ground troops were
deployed to secure the site of the accident.
-
- Thousands of U.S soldiers are stationed in the country
to hunt remnants of the former Taleban government and the al-Qaida terror
network.
-
- More than 100 American soldiers have died since U.S.
forces were deployed in Afghanistan in late 2001 to dislodge the Taleban
from power. Many of the soldiers were killed in accidents.
