- The other shoe drops on New Jersey Governor McGreevey,
who resigned yesterday. The Washington Post is reporting that the gay affair
he had was with Golan Cipel, whom I discussed in my piece yesterday.
-
- Cipel is the Israeli national, ex-soldier, and ex-public
information officer (aka Israeli agent?) who was once based at the Israeli
consulate in NYC.
-
- The governor had appointed Cipel to head up homeland
security for the state of New Jersey, despite the fact that Cipel had no
apparent qualifications for the job---and, because he was not an American
citizen, the feds would not discuss anti-terrorism issues with him.
-
- There is certainly a reason for investigating this man,
to see if he is, indeed, operating on behalf of the Mossad or is somehow
a dupe in an intell op that involves blackmail of the governor.
-
- Here is a brief clip from the Post article:
-
- Aides to the governor said the affair was with a former
aide, Golan Cipel, who was originally hired by the governor as an adviser
to the state Office of Homeland Security and in 2002 was named counselor
to the governor, at a salary that rose to $110,000.
-
- Cipel, a published poet and an Israeli native, resigned
after it was discovered that he had exaggerated his credentials.
-
- One source, a senior McGreevey political adviser, said
Cipel, 33, threatened McGreevey several weeks ago that unless he was paid
"millions of dollars," Cipel would file a lawsuit against the
governor charging him with sexual harassment.
-
- A federal law enforcement source said McGreevey's office
had called the FBI on Thursday and complained that Cipel had requested
$5 million to quash the suit.
-
- End of Post excerpt.
-
- Wow. Who's kidding who here? This tangled web needs to
be undone. If Cipel is an Israeli agent, he may have gone off the reservation,
assuming the report of his threat and extortion attempt is true. Mossad
people don't usually stick their necks out like that, basically inviting
the FBI to step all over them. If Cipel is Mossad, he might be hard-pressed
at this point to get his colleagues in Israel to even pay for a plane ticket
home. Perhaps the Mossad cut him off awhile back, fearing exposure, and
Cipel, desperate, tried to squeeze some money out of the governor.
-
- Don't count on learning anything from the FBI. This whole
story could sink like a stone, and Cipel could fade from public view.

- NJ GOVERNOR RESIGNS UNDER CLOUD
- AUGUST 12, 2004.
-
- All's well that ends well. But this one didn't.
-
- James McGreevey is resigning as governor of New Jersey,
after admitting he is gay. The gov is also married.
-
- Read the following excerpt from the MSNBC story:
-
- TRENTON, N.J. - New Jersey
Gov. James E. McGreevey announced his resignation Thursday afternoon, saying
he had had an extramarital affair with another man that could leave the
state government vulnerable to undue outside influences.
-
- "My truth is that I am a gay American," McGreevey,
a Democratic former prosecutor who has seen several political aides and
fund-raisers accused of corruption, said at a televised news conference.
-
- "Shamefully, I engaged in adult consensual affairs
with another man, which violates my bonds of matrimony," said McGreevey,
47, the married father of two. "It was wrong. It was foolish. It was
inexcusable."
-
- McGreevey said his secret - both his sexuality and his
affair - left the governor's office vulnerable. "I am removing these
threats by telling you about my sexuality," he said.
-
- Specter of lawsuit WABC-TV of New York reported that
McGreevey was expecting a lawsuit by a former aide accusing him of sexual
harassment. The station identified the former aide as Golan Cipel, who
resigned as McGreevey's security adviser in 2002 after months of questioning
about his credentials and job qualifications.
-
- A former Israeli sailor and a published poet, Cipel,
33, was criticized because he did not have a security clearance or law
enforcement background. He had worked in television news and public relations.
-
- The governor, who was married once before, said he had
long struggled with the thoughts of his sexuality.
-
- end of excerpt
-
- What makes this story a little different is Golan Cipel.
The gov hired him to oversee homeland security and anti-terrorism in the
state of New Jersey. One drawback: Cipel, who was raking in $110,000 for
the gig, couldn't get a security clearance. The gov apparently also protected
Cipel from the usual background check all state employees have to undergo.
-
- Cipel is not an American citizen. He is an Israeli national.
A former soldier. A former public information officer at the Israeli consulate
in NY.
-
- The feds refused to share info about terrorism with him
in his post under the gov because he wasn't a citizen of the US.
-
- If I'm reading the MSNBC story correctly, there is a
hint that he, Cipel, was the man who was having an affair with the gov.
And he is now filing a sexual harassment suit against the gov, for unknown
reasons.
-
- This sounds like a classic sex intell op on a politician.
-
- Is Cipel somehow connected to the Mossad?
-
- When the gov says his unadmitted gay affair left him
(and New Jersey) open and vulnerable to outside influences, is he just
talking about the standard kind of blackmail/extortion? Or is he implying
that New Jersey could be squeezed into meeting demands from Israeli operatives
acting on behalf of the Mossad?
-
- If I recall correctly, after 9/11, when those few Israeli
nationals were snapping pictures of the WTC devastation and celebrating---and
were reported to the FBI---the subsequent investigation led to a business
location in New Jersey. When the FBI arrived, the office was bare and the
owner had cleared out.
-
- Why is Golan Cipel now filing a sexual harassment suit
against the governor? Is he? Or is that just a smokescreen? Is Cipel himself
being worked as dupe? How on earth did he get that job as homeland security
advisor, with no listed credentials or background?
-
- The governor's staff has been no stranger to scandals.
One actually involved sex and blackmail, if federal investigators have
it right. Here is a clip from a current USA Today article:
-
- "Among those caught up in recent scandals were his
[the governor's] first chief of staff and former counsel; a top Democratic
fund-raiser and former high school classmate; and real estate developer
Charles Kushner, McGreevey's biggest campaign contributor, who was charged
with trying to thwart a federal campaign-finance investigation by luring
a grand jury witness - his own brother-in-law - into a compromising position
with a prostitute and sending video and photos to the man's wife."
-
- Kushner also happened to hire Golan Cipel for a job in
the private sector.
