Unreported Daylight UFO Sighting
Monmouth County, NJ
Summer, 1959

On a warm summer evening in early July of that year, I, my family along with several neighbors were witnesses to a unique daylight UFO sighting that to this day has never been reported or satisfactorily explained. The object observed was that of a shiny metallic sphere having the appearance of silver or liquid mercury. Its approximate size on retrospect was about that of a pencil eraser held at arms length. The sphere also displayed flashing red and white lights that seemed to flash randomly all around it mainly at its equator.

What makes this sighting even more interesting is that the location of the farm from which we viewed the object is adjacent to the U.S. Navy road and railroad that links NWS (then NAD) Earle (the main munitions storage facility in Colts Neck, NJ) to its pier facilities located in Leonardo, NJ (on Raritan Bay). The road itself is restricted to only military use, primarily that of moving naval munitions from the secure storage facilities at the Colts Neck site to the various Naval ships that tie up to the piers located at the Leonardo facility.

It has long been "rumored that the inventory stored at Earle included conventional as well as "other types of "non-conventional munitions. At the time of the sighting, my father, was employed as a farmhand by a Mr. Murray Rosenberg, then owner of Dorbrook farms as well as Miles Shoes stores (a national shoe chain). We lived in a modest farmhouse on the site facing the road then known as RD#1, Eatontown. Our house also directly faced the Navy road that was approximately several hundred yards away. Looking from my front porch, across this highway one could easily view the government road then known as Normandy Road, or just "the Navy Road that was just across a large field to the east of the RD#1, Eatontown.

It should also be noted that the farms location is especially important because of its proximity to two critical military facilities that to this day, are still considered significant and militarily important installations. Dorbrook farm (now a Monmouth county park) is approximately 4 miles from the research and development facilities located at Fort Monmouth (Communications and Electronics Command) as well as about a mile from Naval Weapons Station Earle base entrance (again, the Normandy road railroad and its service road are directly adjacent to the farm itself).

Unfortunately, because of the passage of years, I must estimate the day and time of the sighting. The time, in my estimation was between 6:00pm and 8:00pm eastern daylight savings time and was probably on a weekday night. The object itself was moving in a south southwesterly direction at a speed of approximately 60 to 120 mph and at an altitude of between 1000 to 3000 feet (note the size and distance were a little hard to determine at the time). The location from which we viewed the object was from the front porch of my house and is highlighted in the diagram below. Also on this diagram, I have added some graphics that indicate the approximate location of the object in relation to the farm as well as the direction of flight and the bearing from the witnesses. (See graphics and photo on the next page):

The map above and the photograph below indicate the current configuration of the Farm as it is today. Unfortunately, the house in which I lived and from where the observation was made was demolished this summer however, it is still located on this particular map and is indicated as such. Please note: Fort Monmouth is located roughly 4 miles to the east of the farm. The photo below looks down at the Navy road, RD#1 and the clustered farm buildings. The Navy road in this picture runs from North to South.

As was previously mentioned, the object was also sighted several miles to the north of the Dorbrook and was actually reported to have landed on a marshy area around Newman Springs Road and River Plaza. The location of this sighting area would fall right on a straight line drawn from the Leonardo facility directly to the Ammunition Depot located in Colts Neck. The object was seen taking off from that marshy area located between Red Bank and River Plaza where the Swimming and Navesink rivers meet (see map below right).

A silver/mercury colored sphere with random red and white blinking was the observed during the sighting mentioned above. This sphere (simulated in the above picture) approximates the size of the object at the time of the sighting. Again, the true color of the spheroid object was not gold/bronze but rather silver/mercury. Note: This object was also sighted on the ground several miles away by an independent observer whom I came across years later.

In closing, the report as it is presented here is accurate to the best of my knowledge. I was a principal in the sighting along with my father, mother and sister and several other witnesses who also resided on the farm during that period. I actually met the additional witness of what appears to be the same sighting approximately 10 years ago. He stated that he observed it taking off from a location several miles away from where we were.

As it took off, the independent witness stated that it was his recollection that the object appeared to be heading in the direction where we eventually viewed our sphere. The actual course would have taken it over NWS Earle and our farm. This additional witness who related his story to me currently works for the Army at Fort Monmouth.

Thank you very much to the witness for this report.

U.S. Coast Guard Serviceman Witnesses Object

Brian,

After viewing your website (excellent site), I came across your Military sightings section. I do have 3 personal sighting experiences of my own.

Two while I was on duty in the U.S. Coast Guard and one, while growing up living within a mile of a major weapons storage facility (NWS Earle) in New Jersey.

The two sightings and one possible that took place while on active duty took place in 1969 and 1970. The first one was while my ship was on Ocean Station Victor (approximately 34.0 N by 165 E) in the western pacific. The second (possible) took place around Con Son island in the Gulf of Siam right off of the coast of Vietnam. The last sighting (daylight visual) took place while steaming from Guam back to Oahu approximately 200 miles from Eniwetok atoll (approximately 17.0 N by 167.0 E). The first sighting was visual and radar with 3 objects being tracked at speeds of between 3200 and 3600 mph. This sighting I believe was duly reported via prescribed SOP. The other two were not
reported.

The sighting that took place around 1959 near the Naval Weapons Station was a daylight sphere (silver with red and white random flashing lights randomly placed surrounding, but not attached to the object. It was flying at slow speed over the Navy road and railroad and on a course coming from the Navy pier several miles away on the Raritan Bay (NYC harbor). Its course would take it directly to the secure WSA on the base proper (Colts Neck). This sighting never made any local papers or reports as near as I could tell.

The possible sighting was actually right off of the coast of Vietnam and took place while holding swim call. An object of approximately 90 go 100' long and approximately 30' wide sailed silently underneath of my while at anchor. It was observed by approximately 10 people who were on anchor and guard duty from the port bridge wing (44 feet above the water line). The object was heading from starboard to port under the rear third of the ship and directly under the men who were swimming off of the fantail. My ship was the CGC Mellon (WHEC 717).

Thank you to the witness for the very interesting reports.

Sherwood Park, Alberta Sightings

Date: Between 1983 and 1985
Time: Between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m.

Message: I am trying to find information on two events I witnessed in Sherwood Park, Alberta between 1983 and 1985. First, in the winter of 1983/84 I was returning from my paper route one night (likely between 7 and 8pm) and saw what seemed like a giant ball of fire of ice (with a tail like a comet) streak across the sky. It was extremely large and appeared to be close enough to crash within 100km or so. I'm pretty sure it was mentioned in the Edmonton Journal and was reported to have crashed in northern Alberta. However, I have been unable to find anything whatsoever on it more recently - and would like to know what it is I saw.

Not long after seeing this "meteorite" my friends and I saw a ball of fire slowly crashing toward the earth with a very long trail of dark smoke behind it. This was in June of 1985. We rode our bikes as far as we could but realized that it was going to crash too far away for us to catch. It fell straight down and rather slowly (we were able to see it in the air for quite some time). Again, I have been unable to find any mention of this event anywhere either.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

Toronto, Ontario Blue, Metallic, Spherical Object

Date: Summer of 2003
Time: Daytime sighting

Message: Last summer I was parked about 2 blocks west of Yonge and Eglinton, I was helping unload my mother in laws wheelchair. My mother in law pointed out a jet laying a chunky chemtrail on a western direction right above us. It was funny because I had only just told her about "chemtrails" the previous evening. While we were looking up we all noticed
what seemed to be a blue, metallic, spherical object following the jet and moving in, out and around the trail. I estimate it was one tenth the size of the jet, we saw it continue to trail the jet until we couldn't see either anymore.

Since then, my wife (along with half of Yorkville) witnessed 3 similar objects putting on quite the show to the amazement of dozens of people in Yorkville. There were three of them making strange maneuvers at high speed, it lasted a good 10 minutes as it was related to me as it happened over a cellphone.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

Spanish Fork, Utah Bat Shaped Object

Date: June 8, 2004
Time: 11:00 p.m.

Hi Brian,

I came across your post on the UFO Sightings report on June 8th 2004. My husband and I were watching the meteor shower last night about 11:00 p.m. and we both saw this strange almost see through object fly above us. We could see the outline and it reminded me of a bat or a kite, but it was bigger than that. So I was wondering if you have found any answers to your experience? It didn't make any noise and it flew over us about 3 times while we were laying on the grass star gazing, then we got spooked and went inside :)

Thanks.

Additional Information:

Q. - First of all could you please tell me where you are located ? Town, state, province, which ever ?

A. - Spanish Fork, UT

Q. - In what part of the sky was the UFO located? North, South, East, West?

A. - On the horizon or straight overhead or somewhere in between? We were stargazing it moved right over us from west to east.

Q. - As it moved, could you determine roughly how fast it traveled , how far, etc..

A. - It moved slow enough that we realized something was moving, but fast enough that by the time we realized what was going on it was gone or it blended into the night sky so we couldn't make out the outline any longer.

Q. - Describe the appearance of the UFO: shape, size, distance, color, texture.

A. - It was see through and the middle of it seemed wavy like an old window pane. I thought it was about as long as a house, but my husband says it wasn't that big. It reminded us of bat wings or a kite but the object was bigger. The color was translucent. It seemed as if we could see the sky through it.

Q. - Describe the area in which you made the sighting. Is it near an airport? An Air Force Base? A military or research installation of any kind?

A. - It isn't near any of these things, but we are very close to the crop circle that was discovered here. There is also a mine that is located in the next town.

Q. - How far up in altitude do you think it was from your location ? (rough guess).

A. - I would say about 200 feet maybe less.

Q. - You also mentioned that is was larger than a bat or a kite, thinking back, would you say it was twice or more larger than a kite, etc. This is why I asked for a rough guess on how high it might have been, if flying around the same height as a small plane, jet airliner or just over tree top.

A. - It was probably above or at the tree line. It was hard to tell because it was so dark. It was about twice as big as a tree or kite.

Q. - How long were you able to watch the whole event for ?

A. - My husband saw it first but passed it off as a bat. Then I noticed it and we saw it again so in all it was probably 10-15 minutes. Then like I said I got scared and we went inside.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

Phoenix, Arizona Trio Of Lights

Date: August 11, 2004
Time: 4:00 p.m.

I ordered a lens attachment that is going to triple my optical zoom. I wish I had it today. At work, 4:00 p.m. same place as usual, looking out the parking garage towards the East. This object moved against the wind and it was windy at the time of taping. This object does a "cartwheel" and is giving off pastel colors if you look closely. Very cool, just thought you'd want to be in the loop.

Thank you to the fellow for the interesting footage and report.

Rossland, B.C. Orange Ball Followed By Lights

Date: August 11, 2004
Time: Approx: 10:00 p.m.

I received a call from a witness on Sunday August 15, 2004 who explained about a sighting he had in Rossland, British Columbia. The witness was previously living at his parents home which is located just below one of the local mountains in the Rossland area. The fellow stepped outside and after standing viewing the night sky for approx five minutes he saw an extremely bright orange falling star. It was coming from a northerly direction. As he observed the quick moving object he thought to himself that this was an amazing spectacle. The man watched the orange glowing ball of light as it disappeared
behind the mountain.

Approx: 5 to 10 seconds later after the bright orange object had vanished behind the mountain, the witness observed a number of flickering lights which appeared out of no where. (the area where the flickering lights appeared was exactly where the fellow lost sight of the orange ball of light). The color of the three lights went from white to red, and it just sat there. The lights did go dimmer at one point but grew in brightness and changed colors again. At times the lights would appear to be bobbing up and down and would move from side to side. As the light moved, the light on one end would dim a bit while the light at the other end grew brighter. At one point in the sighting the witness saw a blue light which he said was flashing on and off.

The day after the sighting took place he decided to go up onto the mountain with his digital camera to see if anything was around, or to see what might have caused the lights, but nothing was there. At this point he is thinking it possibly could have been a vehicle on the road the night before, but after really checking things out he believes it wasn't this..... as the trees, etc would have certainly blocked out any light source coming off the mountain where he had seen the lights. The fellow thinks whatever it was, had to be hovering just above the tree tops. The whole event lasted for approx: 5 to 8 minutes.

One other interesting thing to the report was that there were dogs and cats acting up while this event was taking place. If there is any connection between the animals and what was seen is unknown.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

Hitchcock, Texas Orb Sighting

Date: August 13, 2004
Time: 9:44 - 9:50 p.m.

Full Description of event/sighting: I was out taking random pictures with a Sony, digital. Using no flash and no backlight. I was facing North when I started with 1/8 turn between pictures. The ones enclosed are from the E-NE direction. Orb was about 25 feet from ground and I can't tell how far away it was from me, nothing visible to gauge by. the other four may be a UFO, I didn't see any lights in that direction when I just pointed and took it but I took two right after the other so UFO-8 is in N-NE direction, while UFO-9 is more to the north. I cannot judge the UFO pictures as I didn't have a landmark to go by.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

South Lanarkshire, Scotland

Date: August 14, 2004
Time: 8:45 p.m.

Hello Brian,

Once again I have information on something which my Son and I observed at 20:45 14th of August 2004, in Scotland, South Lanarkshire.

I have attached a digital impression of what we seen. It is nearly exactly what we observed.

While up at a model flying club with my Son, we observed this silvery object flying from South to North. The sky was broken with blue sky behind the cloud, The object passed over us and reflected the sun enormously. The object was like a mirror. The object seemed to be in the shape of two ball-bearings joined about a third together. Very bright and shining in the setting Sun. It was not a plane and there was no sound. I have observed planes at high altitude against a blue sky and the wings can always be seen. There was no contrails either. The object was very high to reflect the Sun the way it did. Some high level planes passed over minuets later but could be seen and heard as aircraft.

Thank you to the witness for their report.

Durham Region (Pickering to Oshawa)

Date: August 14, 2004
Time: 6:15 p.m.

Message:

Hi Brian, I want to report UFO sighting Aug.14,2004 at 6:15 p.m. over the Durham Region (Pickering to Oshawa) high about 30,000 feet or more. Over the shoreline of Lake Ontario, coin like in shape with white light (not too intense) floating very slowly high in the sky with blue sky background. Observed with binoculars round object of white light. Object was so high, would have been very difficult to see with the naked eye if you were not sky watching for UFO's.Observation time duration was 15-20 minutes. (that's how slow the object floated) This is my first sighting this year, as last year was 15.

Take care and I'll keep watching.
