- Leading UK historians challenge to Jerry Bruckheimer.
-
- Two years ago, leading historians Alan Wilson and Baram
Blackett, internationally known and respected for their research into King
Arthur and his kingdoms in ancient Britain, issued a challenge to film-maker
Stephen Spielberg over his plans to film a King Arthur film in Somerset.
The Hollywood mogul ducked the challenge...
-
- Two years on, the much-vaunted "King Arthur"
film by Jerry Bruckheimer is in the cinemas and, despite the massive publicity
surrounding the release, the British media and politicians have been noticeably
quiet in terms of defending the truth.
-
- "This film is an insult to British people whose
real, provable ancient heritage and culture is once again being attacked
and denigrated," said Alan Wilson today.
-
- Wilson and Blackett, the leading experts on both of the
real historical King Arthurs, are challenging filmmaker Bruckheimer. "He
has ignored our research and he's ignored ancient Welsh and British records.
His is a sham version of events. In any other country there would be an
outcry. The worse thing is that some of the actors who star in the film
are saying that the perverted history promoted in the film is the 'truth',"
added Baram Blackett.
-
- The Bruts of England, perhaps the most credible source
of ancient British history, say that Arthur was "crownede King of
Glamorgan". What more evidence does Bruckheimer require?
-
- "This is a fundamental issue of truth version fiction",
Blackett concluded.
-
- Background
-
- In 1990, Wilson and Blackett employed the services of
two highly respected and experienced archaeologists, Dr. Eric Talbot and
Alan Wishart of Glasgow University, to lead a dig at St. Peter's Super
Montem church, which they own. During the excavations, which were authorised
by Royal Commission for Ancient Monuments, several highly significant artefacts
were discovered including an ancient axe, a knife and a small cross that
read "Pro Anima Artorius" ("For The Soul Of Arthur").
-
- These finds came after King Arthur II's memorial stone
had been discovered at St. Peters. This was no surprise; St. Peter's Super
Montem is an ancient and vitally important historical site dating to the
1st Century AD. Other major Welsh kings are buried locally.
-
- Wilson and Blackett have written the best-selling The
Holy Kingdom (Bantam, 1999) with Adrian Gilbert and self-published underground
classics including Arthur, King of Glamorgan and Gwent, Artorius Rex Discovered,
Arthur and the Charters of the Kings and Arthur, The War King (a historical
novel). Their new book, The King Arthur Conspiracy, to be published in
October 04, details Arthur ll's place in the ancient British dynasty and
the ancient alphabet that can be traced from Wales along Cymric migration
lines back to the near east.
-
- The men have lectured extensively in the UK, including
Manchester and Jesus Colleges at Oxford University, and Alan Wilson gave
the prestigious Bemis Lecture in Boston in 1993. Wilson and Blackett were
also commissioned to produce a detailed genealogy of the Bush family by
former President George Bush (senior). CONTACT Tim Matthews on (07863)
