- It is this reporter's opinion that the reaction was predictable
when the 12 dedicated Temecula border guardsmen apprehended 500 illegal
aliens in the inland areas of Southern California. Everybody got in the
act - the activists, the Catholic Church, even the Los Angeles Mexican
consular! But they didn't stop with the local outcry; they actually took
it to Homeland Security Chief Asa Hutchinson, pleading the case of the
"mistreated" illegal aliens who had been smuggled across our
borders.
-
- The support by decent Americans was so great that Hutchinson
complained he received so many phone calls and communications, that he
couldn't do his work. Hutchinson, in turn, pleaded with the White House
to intercede and sure enough, the White House communication spokesman,
Trey Bohn, made a series of telephone calls to West Coast talk show hosts
asking us to please call off the dogs - to stop giving out Hutchinson's
e-mail address and phone numbers. And, as this is being written, Hutchinson
is headed for the coast to meet with press, radio and television to explain
his actions in calling off the sweeps of the illegals. Mr. Hutchinson will
have a tough time explaining how he has sided with the illegal aliens -
rather than his own U.S. citizens - and stopped the arrests.
-
- On another front: Over the past several years, this reporter
has referenced a series of articles in these weekly dissertations telling
of the heroics of a great human being who has given his life to a worthy
cause (teaching young Mexican kids English) - Allan Wall, an American citizen
who lives in Mexico, working as an English instructor. His has been a life-changing
experience. Allan has discovered a Mexico that is diverse and defies stereotypes.
He is married to a beautiful and intelligent Mexican, Lilia, who also works
in the field of education. Together, they enjoy traveling to various parts
of Mexico studying the culture as Allan writes about his observations.
His articles are written objectively, commending AND criticizing the Mexican
government and its culture. At times he has been so critical that we have
asked how he can get away with it - how he can live in Mexico and write
of its problems critically.
-
-
- As an example, he speaks of the fact that Mexico fails
to cooperate with us concerning immigration; how Mexico has dumped its
problems on our country; and how Mexico and its illegals are costing California
$5 billion a year in welfare, medical care, education, criminality, etc.
Wall has emphasized that, for the U.S., it's a one-way street; we are bearing
the brunt of this ever-worsening situation.
-
- Notably, Allan was among the first to caution that among
the flow of illegals are those from the Middle East who may have thoughts
other than immigration in mind. They come over the border dressed as Mexicans,
speaking a little Spanish, integrating amongst us. Who knows how many Islamic
terrorists might be among them? We know from past experience what they're
capable of doing. For heaven's sake, one of those responsible for the 1993
Trade Center bombing had been legalized as a seasonal agricultural worker
- part of the 1986 amnesty that Congress granted to illegal aliens.
-
- But get ready for this shocker: Allan Wall is a member
of our National Guard and by sheer coincidence - obviously to shut him
up - he is being called up for duty in Iraq. Apparently Allan and his charge
in numerous articles that Mexico is meddling in our affairs has brought
the axe down. So here we have Allan Wall - a dedicated, patriotic American,
married to a Mexican National, with two little children, speaking up for
America and off he goes to Iraq. And there goes another source of valuable
information. The only thing Allan has tried to do in his articles about
the various aspects of Mexican society is to point out the fact that today's
mass immigration from Mexico to the U.S. is not good for EITHER country.
But for having told the truth, he is paying the price.
- Where does it all end?
