Irish Fear Voodoo Ritual
In Woman's Death

8-13-4

DUBLIN, Ireland (UPI) -- Irish authorities Friday sought to unravel the mysterious and gruesome discovery of a decapitated body that was the daughter of an African leader.

The headless body of Paiche Unyolo Onyemaechi, 25, was found next to a stream in County Kilkenny, the Times of London reported. She was the daughter of Leonard Unyolo, Malawi's justice minister.

Detectives are exploring the possibility the mother of two was the victim of a ritual sacrifice known as a "muti" killing.

The killing recalls the case of "Adam," an unidentified African boy whose torso was found floating in the Thames in September 2001, leading to Scotland Yard's first investigation into muti killing, where the body parts or bones of a victim are used to bring luck or curse an enemy.

Irish police traveled to London this week to discuss Onyemaechi's death with British detectives. Scotland Yard specialists traveled to West Africa last year and have become one of Europe's foremost group of experts into witchcraft and voodoo-related homicides.

Among similarities between the two killings are the decapitation, the proximity to water and ties to Nigeria, home of her husband, who reported her missing July 8. He has since returned to Nigeria.
