- FALLUJAH (AP) -- At least
two people were killed and three wounded in explosions that rocked the
rebel-held city of Fallujah today, hospital officials said.
-
- The cause of the blasts was not immediately known but
a pair of US warplanes were seen repeatedly swooping over the area that
was hit by at least seven blasts, witnesses said. Thick plumes of smoke
leaped up into the sky.
-
- The US military had no immediate comment.
-
- Dhia Adel of Fallujah General Hospital said the two killed
and three wounded were city municipal employees using a bulldozer to work
on construction projects near the Fallujah railway station.
-
- US jets have repeatedly targeted cranes and bulldozers
on the edge of the city after intelligence showed they were being used
by militants to build fortified positions.
-
- The Americans have launched attacks against buildings
used by alleged terror mastermind Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
-
- Zarqawi's Tawhid and Jihad Group has claimed responsibility
for a series of car bombings, kidnappings and other assaults meant to destabilise
the US-backed interim authorities.
-
- American troops have not entered Fallujah since ending
a three-week siege of the city in April that left hundreds dead.
