- A British prisoner at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo
Bay, Cuba, says he has been physically abused during his detention, and
that he has witnessed the deaths of two other inmates.
-
- In a letter to his lawyers, Moazzam Begg says U.S. personnel
tortured and threatened to kill him during several interviews while he
was in U.S. custody.
-
- Mr. Begg, who says he was detained in Pakistan more than
two years ago, did not explain his statement that he witnessed U.S. personnel
kill two other detainees.
-
- In the letter, which is dated July 12, Mr. Begg says
he has committed no crime and has not been charged.
-
- Mr. Begg's lawyers say his letter was the first uncensored
communication they have received from their client, and that U.S. officials
released it.
-
- Three of the five Britons released from Guantanamo Bay
in March said they were abused during their detention. Including Mr. Begg,
four Britons remain imprisoned at the base.
