- At about 3:50 PM I looked out my window at the my workplace
to see a rather queer looking cloud. It was floating all alone above the
water tower in Downtown Mt. Washington in an otherwise blue sky. Within
seconds the tiny little puff expanded into a much larger mushroom shaped
plume, which quickly evaporated. I figured it was just a cloud and went
on with my business. I looked out again and witnessed a second 'puff'
expanding. As I looked close I could see the small but definite speck
of some kind of small aircraft flying in and around the plume, seemingly
emitting some kind of smoke trail as it went. No, this was not a typical
plane trail either. The aircraft was making tight, concentric circles laying
out these odd little puffs. This went on for about half an hour. I'm
guessing this could be skywriting, but the pilot was not 'writing' anything.
He was just making these little blobs of smoke on purpose. While this
was happening I had four eyewitnesses who saw the same thing I did, including
the small plane in and around the smoke. I wrote an email to a local news
station and got back this response:
-
- "This is the only report I've seen on this. The
only thing I can think is that they plane may have been some sort of a
crop duster. But, I can't imagine what it would be spreading this time
of year. Fertilizer? And if there are no fields in that area, that theory
is shot.
-
- "The only other thing I can think of is that it
may have been some sort of a terrorism exercise. As you may be aware,
there have been intelligence reports for some time now that terrorists
have been trying to get ahold of crop dusting planes in order to disperse
chemical weapons. But, again, this is pure speculation without actually
seeing it for myself."
