suicide car bomber has attacked a U.S. military convoy in the northern
Iraqi city of Mosul, causing several casualties, witnesses say.

- They said they saw body parts scattered in the street
after the blast on Monday, which occurred in southern Mosul on the main
highway leading into the city from the south.

- No casualty figures were immediately available, but the
witnesses said civilians and soldiers had been hit.

- The bomb gouged a huge crater two metres (six feet) deep
in the road. U.S. soldiers opened fire after the attack, the witnesses
said.

- Insurgents have frequently mounted attacks on U.S. forces
in Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad.
