- Harlow, Essex UFO Sightings
-
- Date: 1962
-
- Hi Brian, I live in Harlow, Essex, about twenty minutes
drive away from the recent sightings of the orange ball UFO seen in Loughton
on the 10/09/05. I did not see the particular UFOs in question but have
seen the same type on a previous occasion and may be able to throw some
light on this particular type of craft/phenomena.
-
- This is a bit complicated and I'll try to keep it short.
These orange balls keep showing up in the UK and I saw one in 1962. I was
nine years old. I had come out of my friend's house after watching a BBC
series called "The Monsters", about reptile/dinosaur creatures
taking over the world. The program is significant in that it was never
repeated so I was able to track it down online and get an exact date of
when this experience took place.
-
- 9:PM 29/11/62 I came out of my friend's house, which
faces south, and I saw the moon in front of me and slightly to the right
at about 60 degrees to the ground. I turned left along the footpath for
a few yards and left again on the main street. This put me in a northerly
direction. I only had a few hundred yards to go and I would be at home.
I was not in a hurry but neither was I hanging about as it was very cold
that time of the year and that time of night. As I crossed a small road
I became aware of what looked like the moon to my right (east).
-
- I knew I had just seen the full moon so it couldn't be
that. I stopped and looked at this ball of yellowy, pearly orange. To give
some idea of its size and proximity it must be understood that it was above
two designated police houses (something that no longer exists in the UK),
behind which is a wood full of mature oak and pine trees (even 43 years
ago the oaks were quite tall) that go back about two hundred yards. The
ball was about 45 to 50 degrees and, holding my fist up now, it was easily
bigger than my fist by about 10%. This thing was close and I feel sure
it knew I was there. It had two round dark patches, one each to the left
and right lower half. I have often explained this by saying that if you
looked at a model of a "Grey" alien's head and tipped it down,
then the head would be the round shape of the craft and the top most part
of the eyes would be represented by the dark patches.
-
- The contrast between the patches and the ball colour
was like that of the dark patches you see on burning coals and, indeed
the ball had that kind of coal like light to it. The night was mainly clear
with a light wind blowing a few wispy clouds across the sky. As a cloud
passed over the ball I could still see the light glowing through the cloud.
The cloud passed and I watched for some two minutes before the ball vanished
as if it had been switched off like a light.
-
- There was another episode that occurred that year which
may or may not be significant. But before I get into that let me say that
I grew up very interested in the UFO phenomenon and in 1986 started to
take it very seriously after reading Above Top Secret by Timothy Good which,
in turn, led me into the whole conspiracy thing and now I'm reasonably
well informed on such matters. In 1998 I saw a program on the TV in which
the late John Mack talked about abductees or "experiencers" as
they like to be called. He pointed out that a very large proportion of
those abducted had been sexually abused as children. One of these people's
stories touched me for some reason and I wrote to the BBC with a letter
of encouragement and some suggestions to help her. Then later that year
I got a call and it was the person from the program, let's call her K.
We chatted a lot on the phone, she in the USA and me in the UK. After about
three weeks I had the good fortune to come into enough money to go to Florida
and meet this young lady. She informed me that she had been abused by her
step father and I then related to her the episode I mention at the head
of this paragraph.
-
- (The story is this: HBCC UFO Research note: I have removed
part of the letter as it dealt with a sexual related topic, which may,
or may not have had anything to do with the ongoing experiences. But I
should note that reading the letter, there maybe some strange things going
on. I pick up the story "below: omitting a paragraph of his letter.)
-
- That occurred around Easter time 1962. In the summer
of 1962 I spent a lot of time at the fair (when I wasn't otherwise engaged
in trying to prove my manhood). One day I came home from the fair to find
my father sitting front of the TV watching the cricket. He then said the
most bizarre thing he ever said to me before or since. He said "I've
just been to the
- toilet and all this grey stuff came out". I was
nine years old, I knew what the grey stuff was (courtesy of my cousin)
and I was alone in the house with a man that could easily overpower me.
I felt threatened, which frightened me as he had always been someone I
could trust, at least on a personal level. My immediate reaction was to
stay calm and make an excuse to get out. Where it came from I don't know
but I said to him "oh really, I'd go and see the doctor if I were
you", whilst simultaneously getting up and going to the kitchen. From
there I was able to go out through another door.
-
- I stayed out until I knew my mother would be in. I never
told her about the incident and my father never mentioned it or anything
like it again. But it was only in discussing this with K that I formed
the opinion that maybe he may have been under the influence of someone
or something else and that if he had succeeded in whatever it was he wanted
to engage me in, then maybe later that year in November I would possibly
have been an abductee. I have sometimes pondered this since I have put
the episodes together. I don't remember losing any time and I am reasonably
convinced that I was not an abduction victim, although K thought it was
a possibility.
-
- This is a strange series of events in my life and they
appear even more weird when they are written down. Having come to the conclusion
that I possibly escaped both abuse by my father and abduction by the orange
ball, I did some research. I found a website that had a listing of sightings
throughout the 60s and in the same week that I saw the ball there were
other
- sightings of the same thing.
-
-
- The ones that interested me were two sightings either
the same night or the night before my sighting in Harlow, one In Clacton
on Sea in Essex and one In Watford, Hertfordshire. Take a look at the map
and these three places are in a straight line. Then last year I moved to
Princes Risborough, Bucks for six months and discovered that the previous
year there had been a flap in Risborough after an orange ball was seen
hanging over the town. Whilst there we had several strange sightings which
were not aircraft but could not be confirmed as the ball.
-
- I'm glad that I have finally reported this officially
as it has played on my mind for some years now. I hope you find the information
useful and I would be interested in knowing about any other similar sightings
of this ball/balls that you know about in the UK. Email me if you require
any other information about this sighting. I will be in touch about other
sightings I have had.
-
- Additional Information:
-
- As I said in my last email, I don't remember having lost
any time on that occasion. My parents were not particularly strict but
there were rules and at nine years old, 9:00 PM and still only just leaving
my friend's house, was a special treat and only lasted during the run of
the serial I mentioned, The Monsters. If I had been any later than about
9:15 I'm sure there would have been at least some raised voices. But I
don't remember anything like that happening. The funny thing is I don't
remember much at all of the after events, except running home very fast
after the ball "switched off".
-
-
- My other sightings include a photograph I took in the
south of France when I lived there in 1994. A silver sphere hovered about
10,000 to 20,000 feet over my house for at least four hours. I took no
notice at first as I was convinced that it was a weather balloon but when
it refused to go away I went indoors, got my camera and took a picture.
It was very difficult to
- stay looking at it so I would look for a while and then
rest my neck for a while. It did nothing out of the ordinary except stay
there. It was a typical southern French day, absolutely clear sky and full
sunshine. I kept looking and quite frankly I got a bit bored with it. Then
I looked after having had a rest for a few minutes and it was gone. If
I can find the photo, I will send it to you.
-
- I had two sightings on two consecutive Sundays of what
I think was the same object on both occasions. 1974, Harlow about October
around 5:00 PM, November time, I was driving my friend's Triumph sports
car with him in the passenger seat. We saw what at first appeared to be
a helicopter. It was a series of red and blue lights hovering in a perfectly
clear night sky. They then started to travel at tremendous acceleration
from west to east. After about three seconds they stopped abruptly and
retraced their route back to the west, again at very high velocity and
acceleration. Again they went back to the east and stopped to hover for
a few seconds. At this point we were travelling north and the object became
obscured by some houses. I stopped the car and went, by myself, into the
housing estate, leaving my friend to keep an eye on the car. The object
then started accelerate away from my position and travelled north, getting
smaller and disappearing in about two
- to three seconds. The following week, almost exactly
the same time, we were doing the same journey and saw what appeared to
be the same object, which again made the same maneuvers and disappeared
in a northerly direction but
- this time we saw the disappearance from the car, as we
were in a slightly different position to the previous week.
-
- As you said in your email there is always the possibility
that I have had some contact that I am unaware of but that is speculation
and at this point I don't feel that there is any hard evidence to support
it. I will admit that I don't feel comfortable with that possibility as
the prospect of ongoing abductions would make me a little paranoid to say
the least. On the other hand I have often had the feeling that the orange
ball may be monitoring me.
-
- Thank you to the person for taking the time to share
his experiences with me.

- Ronkonkoma, L.I, New York Multi-Colored Lights (UFO)
-
- Date: June 21, 1969
- Time: 11:00 p.m.
-
- Number of witnesses: 2
- Number of objects: 1
- Shape of objects: Unknown
-
- Full Description of event/sighting: A teenage friend
(age 18) and myself (age 17) were lying in the grass on our backs in a
school playground at about 11:00 pm at night. After a short conversation
about the days events, my friend pointed to a cloudless sky and told me
that he previously learned about the location and names of constellations
in science class and began pointing out the little dipper, the Big Dipper
and the names of certain other star formations for me. As we were scanning
the horizon, my friend happened to notice 3 colored lights that appeared
to be close by. It was dark of course, but I would estimate the lights
to be about two miles away and about one mile high above the ground. We
were with-in 5 miles of an airport, so the occasional appearance of multi-colored
lights of small aircraft in the sky was not unusual, and we both agreed
that this is probably what the lights were and continued to scan the sky's
looking for other interesting constellations.
-
- About 15 minutes later, my friend looked to the horizon
again and brought to my attention that the multi-colored lights were still
in the same place as they were before. We naturally thought that this was
very odd, but decided that it was either another airplane traveling the
same flight path or the same plane had circled and just happened to be
in the same location that we were looking. We quickly went back to observing
the stars.
-
- Some time later, about 20 minutes, I happened to look
in the direction of what we both dismissed as a airplane sighting, and
again, in the very same place and of the exact orientation, I saw the same
multi-colored lights. I quickly brought it to the attention of my friend
and together we tried to come up with a rational explanation as to why
and how an object could suspend itself in the air in the same exact place,
for that length of time. I finally came to the conclusion that it must
be a helicopter, but my friend reminded me that helicopters are extremely
noisy and it was a very quiet night with no breezes. If the object was
a helicopter, we would definitely hear the sound of the engine and rotor
blades.
-
- By now, we were both puzzled and intrigued, and our attention
was now focused directly on the object for about 10 minutes. As we stared
at the lights, I strained to make out some kind of outline or silhouette
of the object, but I could not see any definite shape because the object
seemed to absorb what little light was available and blend into the night
sky. Just as we were discussing what this thing could be, it suddenly moved
at tremendous speed to our left at a 45 degree angle upward, about 5 miles
in the sky, paused for a brief second, and then accelerated straight upwards
to the very outer stratosphere of the Earth, then stopped, hovered, appearing
as a point of light for a second or two, and then suddenly propelled itself
into deep space at an even faster speed then I had ever seen any man-made
aircraft fly. The acceleration was so abrupt, and the angles of maneuver
were so sharp, it is hard to believe that any living thing inside the craft
could survive the G-Forces involved.
-
- My friend and I looked at each other in astonishment,
all I could say to him was "Woa", "What was that?".
The next day, we told all are friends. Some of are friends believed us,
but most did not. However, those that did not believe us, could not come
up with an explanation either. I am in my 50's now, but I will never forget
the experience, and the memory of it is still fresh in my mind like it
happened yesterday. Whatever this object was, it moved so fast that it
appeared surreal. At the age of 17 years old, I was a ("I don't believe
it, unless I see it") kind of a young man, and I certainly did not
believe in extraterrestrial spacecraft, but after this 1969 sighting,
I soon changed my opinion.

- Thank you to the eyewitness for their report.

- North of Toronto Ontario, Hwy 48 Very Large Two Storied
Oval Shaped UFOs
-
- Date: 1974
- Time: 10:00 p.m.
-
- Number of witnesses: 2
- Number of objects: 1
- Shape of objects: Very large two storied oval shaped.
-
- Full Description of event/sighting: My father, mother,
myself, my three small children driving north on Hwy 48 north of Toronto
(Ontario) about 30 miles. Mom and I were sitting in the front with my father
driving. Mom and I saw a massive object to our left in a field. It was
much larger than a farm combine in the air about 50 feet off the ground.
It had windows which were lit and it seemed to be revolving. It was frightening.
I said to my mother "What is that?!!" She looked at me and said
"Don't frighten the children". We never spoke of it again until
a year ago. Never mentioned it to a soul for all those years. It was not
my first sighting. I reported seeing with my husband about fifteen miles
from the first sighting on County Rd 23, Brock Township, Durham Region
a large white light at the side of the hwy. We stopped the car and immediately
from this white came three objects, two flew horizontally, one vertically
at a high rate of speed.
-
- We carried on into town and when we returned the hydro
was off in the subdivision. The weather good, but hydro not off in town.
We proceeded into our house and there was one of the objects over the
field behind our house. I had a reporter from the Beaverton Express come
and do an article regarding this and shortly after I heard from a neighbor
who told me she had been watching them for weeks, but did not want to tell
anyone else. I can find the archival newspaper with some work. Around
the same time a police officer we knew told us that scientists were performing
experiments on the frozen lake near us, Lake Simcoe. He went out there
and they informed him they were performing tests regarding a black hole
into space. The time frame have been about 1974. The thing that really
bothers my mother and myself is that we had never spoken of the incident
on the highway with the cylinder type object until recently and my father
never mentioned it. He did not question us as to our comments and he passed
away before Mom and I spoke about it.
-
- Thank you to the witness for the report.

- Black Rock Desert, Nevada An Orange Bright Light (UFO)
-
- Date: September 2, 2005
- Time: Just after dusk.
-
- Number of witnesses: 4-5
- Number of objects: 1
- Shape of objects: Single bright orange round light.
-
- Full Description of event/sighting: While camping with
friends near Gerlach, Nevada on Friday night, Sept 2, just as the stars
were coming out, I noticed a very bright orange light above the low mountains
approximately 10 miles away. It was round and amber-orange colored, and
it moved very slowly, crossing high in the sky in roughly a southerly direction.
-
- After watching it for a few seconds and not being able
to determine if it was a plane headlight pointed in our direction, I pointed
to the object and asked my friends, "What's that?"
-
- They looked, and agreed that they didn't know what it
was, either. We continued to watch the object as it moved at a slow to
medium pace across the sky. It occasionally would turn a little to the
left or right as it passed. It seemed to be taking its time going wherever
it was headed, like it was meandering a little.
-
- The object was definitely not a satellite, because we
had seen satellites in the sky that weekend and knew their paths and appearances.
It did not appear to be the headlight of a plane, because the intensity
and shape of the light did not change as it passed overhead, and it had
no discernable blinking lights.
-
- If it was a helicopter, it was very quiet and had no
other light than the single bright one, which remained bright in intensity
well past the point that regular aircraft headlights would have disappeared.
No actual shape could be seen, though. It was just a bright orange ball
of light.
-
- The sky was completely clear and there was no moon (new
moon, in fact). It did not seem to make any sound. I lost sight of it when
it passed the southern leg of the mountains behind me.
-
- The color was also distinctive. Definitely orange.
-
- Thank you to the eyewitness for their report.

- Loughton, U.K. Three Orange Balls Of Light
-
- Date: September 10, 2005
- Time: Approx 8:45 p.m.
-
- My girlfriend and I were leaving her house in Loughton,
it is on a big hill so you have a clear view of London and the Canary Wharf.
-
- I spotted three orange balls of light in the sky moving
away from London. They flew in a triangle formation, I remember thinking
that they flew very, very strange for aircraft, and they also appeared
to pulsate. And, then all of a sudden they stopped dead in the sky. As
they started moving again, I spotted another orange ball flying from the
London area towards the three lights at a very high speed by the time it
got near the other lights the triangle of three vanished behind cloud.
Then after a short time the single light vanished from view. As that light
vanished my girlfriend spotted three more lights flying very fast from
the London region, they again flew in a triangle, then as they flew above
our heads they stopped dead in the sky, and the light on the right of the
triangle moved toward the light at the top of the triangle, then eclipsed
it.They then moved back into a triangle once more and disappeared behind
more cloud.
-
- That is the story how my girlfriend and I remember it.
-
- Thank you to the eyewitness for their report.

- Toronto, Ontario Large Black Craft (UFO)
-
- September 11, 2005
- Time: 10:45 p.m.
-
- On Sunday September 11, 2005 and probably at around 10:45
pm I saw a large black craft in the sky. I only noticed because I was looking
at some stars. It would have been really difficult to see this thing otherwise.
No noticeable noise or lights on the object. blended in with the sky very
well.
-
- I was at Bloor/Dufferin on the 14th floor of my east
facing apartment. I saw this black object move in an eastwardly direction
and then at around Yonge Street or so, it appeared to turn and head towards
downtown Toronto, where I lost track of it.
-
- Thank you to the witness for the report.

- Hainault, Essex U.K. Five Round Orange Orbs
-
- Date: September 17, 2005
- Time: 9.30 p.m.
-
- Number of witnesses: 6
- Number of objects: 5
- Shape of objects: Round orange orbs.
-
- Full Description of event/sighting: We, my partner and
I, had just left my parents house, roundabout 9.30pm, just saying our goodbyes.
My Dad helped us carry a box of paper to the car. We walked out of the
front gate when something caught my eye above the house. It was two orange
lights in the sky slowly moving in the direction of the moon NWW. Then
they started to close in towards each other. They then stopped, my dad
was there with me watching at the time. My dad then said "hang on"
and ran back in the house and called for my mum to come outside.
-
- I was standing, frozen watching the two orange lights,
feeling nervous. As my mum came through the front gate, she looked up,
and after about one minute she said "look". She pointed towards
three orange bright lights travelling at the same speed as the previous
two, in a triangular formation. They were flying towards the original two
lights, staying in a triangular shape, then slowly changing formation.
The three lights then separated, the top light and bottom lights drifted
apart, and continued to travel. Then my brother, who had been fetched whilst
the second set of lights were travelling, ran back into the house to grab
the digital camera. He gave it to me and I began to take pictures. The
first two lights then disappeared behind the clouds.
-
- I managed to take one picture of the first two before
they disappeared completely. Then a neighbor walked up the street, and
spoke to my dad, he said that he had seen the first two from his window,
and so came outside to get a better look. The three lights then stopped
dead and we all just watched. The top and bottom lights (in the triangular
formation) went out of vision as the clouds moved over them. We could still
see the middle orange light, for approx. three minutes. Then my brother
and myself saw it shoot off at amazing speed. We arrived back home in shock,
and immediately checked the computer to see the pictures we had taken.
They were amazing. When we saw them (with our eyes) they were just orange
balls of light. On the pictures however, there is a more defined shape
to them. We then decided to make a record of our sighting.
-
- Thank you to the eyewitness for their report.

- Constantine, Michigan White Sparkler Type Object
-
- Date: September 19, 2005
- Time: 9:00 p.m.
-
- Hi, I wanted to report a sighting. Maybe you can tell
me what I actually saw. I am from Constantine, Michigan. I was pulling
out of the parking lot of the college I attend and saw a sparkler type
light. The best way to describe the way it moved is like a child with a
Fourth of July white light sparkler moving it in their hand while walking
around. That is how the light moved Monday night (9-19-05, 9:00 pm). When
I first saw the light I thought, "That is not an airplane light."
The light was not moving straight and slow or straight and fast or hovering,
it was jagged, jerking movement, at a medium pace speed. It went over the
college parking lot and headed toward the town. A few times it looked as
though the light had stopped and then comeback like it was losing power.
I followed it to the end of the college drive and turned the opposite
way, thinking no one will believe me anyway if I tell them about it. I
wondered if it was a meteorological device or some sort of radio-controlled
camera. I could not justify those descriptions because the light was so
bright and it literally was a giant sparkler.
-
-
- Additional Information:
-
- Q. - Can you please tell me how long the sighting lasted
for ? I am wondering how fast it traveled across the sky.
-
- A. - What I saw traveled approx 10 mph it was not very
fast. It did not travel a straight line it was more like a little kid waving
a sparkler and running with it.
-
- Q. - Also, would you have a "rough" idea how
high it may have been, like where a jet aircraft would fly, or maybe a
small plane or helicopter?
-
- A. - It was approximately 15 - 20 ft high, not as high
as a jet. There was no sound either so I know it wasn't a helicopter.
-
- Q. - Can you tell me what the weather conditions were
that evening?
-
- A. - It was partly cloudy; we had had rain almost all
day. But it wasn't raining at the time. It was dark about 9:00 p.m.
-
- Q. - In what part of the sky was the UFO located? North,
South, East, West? On the horizon or straight overhead or somewhere in
between? (Direction of travel from and to?)
-
- A. - When I first saw it, it was coming from the, south
it traveled north to where I was in the parking lot and then moved east
toward the town. But it wasn't a straight line type movement
-
- Q. - Describe the appearance of the UFO: shape, size,
distance from your location, sound if any?
-
- A. - There was no sound and no shape all could see were
sparks it was like a giant white sparkler. From the ground it looked to
be about 2 ft in diameter but it's hard to tell.
-
- Q. - Describe the area in which you made the sighting.
Is it near an airport? An Air Force Base? A military or research installation
of any kind?
-
- A. - I was in the parking lot of a community college.
They do not have an aviation division, I know they have a course on astronomy
but I can not figure out what an object like that would have to do with
astronomy. The only little airport there is about 30 miles a way to the
north of town. I am in the military, I am pretty sure I can differentiate
a little Cessna to an F16 to Huey. Trust me it was neither of those. I
found this to be very bizarre especially since I don't believe in UFO's
or little space creatures. In all my life I have never heard of or witnessed
such a thing.
-
- Q. - If there is anything else you could add, please
do as it may be very important.
-
- A. - The county fair was taking place that night. I had
wondered if what I saw had anything to do with the fair. I never saw any
flyers for something like that though. The object did lose its sparkle
a few times like the light dimmed but it came back. I turned to head south
to home and when I looked back the object was gone.
-
- Thank you to the eyewitness for their report.

- Vernon, British Columbia An Orange-Pink Sphere
-
- Date: September 19, 2005
- Time: 11:00 p.m.
-
- Night sky, cloudy, breezy
-
- Hi Brian, Last night I saw two "shooting star's"
enter the northwest sky. One star was bright white with a silver trail.
It is the one I saw about an hour later that I want to report. The clouds
were low to midrange last night and the full moon was behind me enhancing
the clouds in the west sky.
-
- Under the low western cloud cover, heading into the west,
I saw appear with the trail already behind a orange-pink sphere fully intact
with an aura of yellow. This was surrounded with the white light leading
to the trail. There
- was no smoke trail.
-
-
- The distance from me was with in twenty kilometers, the
color of the sphere was like Venus is when it sets, glowing pinks and oranges,
and it's size was just a little bigger than Venus has been in the night
sky. It's trail was yellow and white.
- The sphere was whole and intact at the front.
-
- It then disappeared. It's angle of descent was about
twenty degrees above the mountains and it was moving toward the ground.
It's direction was indirectly toward Kamloops. I have been able to coincide
some sightings of shooting stars to the orbs that fly over so I stayed
outside last night to watch if any orbs appeared but there was nothing
more after the colorful shooting star.
-
- Thank you to the eyewitness for their report.

- Gobernador Knob, New Mexico Semi-Transparent Triangular
Shape (UFO)
-
- Date: September 20, 2005
- Time: Early evening
-
- Dear Brian;
-
- I and 12 other people saw something very similar to what
you describe, "like Venus when it sets only bigger," near Gobernador
Knob in northern New Mexico on Tuesday night, September 20, just after
sunset.
-
- It hovered for a bit, came closer, spun, hovered again
for about 40 minutes and then receded quickly turning red-orange as it
went. When it was close and not spinning, it appeared as a semi-transparent
triangular shape with a rounded top-something like a brachiopod. We took
pictures of it with our digital cameras. There isn't much to see other
than a spot of light.
-
- I am not sure if this corresponds with what you saw.
-
- Thank you to the eyewitness for their report.
