Alert - Hospitals Full In Maryland
And Delarware
1-11-01

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND - Many Maryland hospital emergency rooms are filled beyond capacity. Maryland Emergency Medical Service officials are asking people not to use the emergency room or call 911 unless they have a true emergency. That way, they say people with immediate trauma can be treated first. Many hospitals in the state of Maryland are on yellow alert, meaning their emergency rooms are so full that ambulances are having to take patients to other hospitals.

DOVER, DELAWARE - If you are taken to one of seven Delaware County hospitals and you do not have a serious or life threatening condition, be prepared to wait. An emergency situation continues at the seven suburban hospitals after they became completely filled with patients. Ed Truitt, Director of Emergency Services for Delaware County says officials are monitoring the situation "on a day to day, hour by hour basis." The seven hospitals serving Delaware County are said to be at full capacity with no available beds. Hospital and emergency personnel say they are not certain what is causing the problem. Critical patients are getting top priority when they are taken to the seven Delaware County hospitals. http://www.emergency.com/ennday.htm
