A Memorial Day Memorial

Hi Everyone. Having a great weekend? It's Memorial Day and the barbies are a hissin,' the burgers a sizzlin' and the beer flowin.'

Yuppers, Memorial Day is a great holiday. And we here at Morty's Cabin are all happy that you guys are all happy. Uh ... of course, we all know about Memorial Day, don't we? Huh?

Barbecue. Beer. Auto racing. The indy racing league (lower case deserved) at the Brickyard and of course, the Monaco Grand Prix.

Memorial Day. It's really a day when we Americans are supposed to be honoring those who died in the service of our country. All wars, regardless of whether or not you agree with them, count, on this special day. Americans tend to forget about the real meaning of our holidays. I've oft wondered why that is. Maybe we're too busy living? Another line which Dylan wrote in an early piece went something like this ... "Those who are busy living are busy dyin'!" Too true.

Yeah, that could be one of the reasons. Too busy living. While others were too busy dying. And they died because they believed in what they were fighting for, didn't they? Yes. And we are supposed to honor them. Aren't we?

Just how many of you took a moment today or will do so tomorrow, to say a silent prayer, to take a moment make this day solemn. To remember what the hell we Americans have fought for over our history. Two world wars. A fight for freedom. During a time when Americans gave their support to the fight. Times when we knew full well that had we done anything else, we could have been speaking a different language ... or ... suffered the consequences of not being a member of the Master Race.

We fought with a most sincere belief in freedom. A belief in God. In Country. In ourselves and in our way of life. These days, we appear a bit confused about freedom and what it means. About God and what that belief means. About Country and the meaning of having one to live and die for. Instead, we fight our government, our elected officials and even ourselves. We suffer from rage on the road and rage in our hearts. **We are NOT happy people.** We complain all the time. About everything.

Well, maybe complaining is good, because it exposes our faults and espouses what we believe. But maybe, just maybe, it's not so good. Because all we do is bitch and moan. We do NOTHING to solve the problems of our time. We devote NOTHING to change what we dislike. Nothing to change what we abhor. Nothing.

We should be fighting the battle to win ... make that ... REGAIN our independence, our freedom and our country. And of course, our God. But instead. Bitch and moan. Bitch and moan.

"One more cup of coffee for the road. One more cup of coffee 'for I go. To the Valley Below." Dylan wrote them words. Only with us, things are different.

Exactly what should we be doing?

o Parenting

o Not Voting for morons

o Writing our elected officials

o Remembering

o Praying

Back to Basics, folks. September 11th. World War One and Two. Korea. Vietnam. Iraq. And all the in-between wars. People DIED, folks. Can you remember that? Or do you need a reminder?

OK. Here's a reminder. See our Pic of the Day. And remember.

Morty ... and Morty does NOT forget.
